I am giving serious thought to selling my XC 70 and buying a Series 2 Discovery (post facelift). I had a Disco 2 My2000 and sold it in 2004 for a Sorento due to its never ending problems. However my motoring needs have changed and looking at D2 post-face lift they seem to have overcome many of the issues that beset the pre facelift models. The reason for taking such an apparent step backwards is that as well as a tow car, I want something that will take my son and me greenlaning, camping, and on trips to the Pyrenees and Romania next year. Rather than buy a third car the D2 seems a reasonable choice as I can do much of the maintenace myself, there are lots of parts available at pretty low prices and we have 5 independent LR specialist within a 20 mile radius if I need a full workshop input. There also active LR Owners clubs around here.
I would welcome any inputs from D2 post facelift owners on their experiences. Contributions from Defender owners gratefully declined as I treasure my hearing and wish to preserve my spine!! Toyatos/Mitsubishi etc fine cars but would look a bit odd at a LR Owners club event!

Seriously though, it's taken a long time to get over my pre facelift and I haven't heard anything better about the post ones. Seems you may be better off with a disco 1, 300 tdi!!!????

Went to see a 03 reg ES auto yesterday at a local main dealer. It was advertised as 1 owner and FSH. Well grubby does not do it justice, 3 owners and two service stamps missing and only from from 3 LR dealer/specialist! 5 very worn tyres of dubiuous Chinese heritage, and although it drove okay I did find it irritating that the wipers kept stalling in the vertical position and could only be made to work by switching them off and back on again, which achieved two swipes before the procedure had to be repated. This one was being advertised at top book too. Sales agent did not seem too bothered by this, but with a forecourt full of Range Rovers (full size and baby) and Discos I suppose their combined depreciation whilst I was there would have been greater than the near £10k being asked for the Disco2!! The search goes on.

I do think it is strange that car dealers do not seem to make much effort to present their vehicles for sale,we tried a Discovery from a dealer and on the test drive without a salesman present it broke down. We had to call the dealer to be recovered, and the salesman's last words as we were leaving were"so what did you think of the vehicle?"
