Get the Caravan Club European Travel brochure. They have a site in there near to Disneyland Paris. There has been a thread on this not so long ago somewhere on this forum.

Driving in France should be no problem to you I'm sure! Just take it easy to start with and take care on roundabouts till you get used to them.

Hi Tina.We did it in April this year.Booked through the caravan club as best price, also booked tickets through them.Went Ports -Le Havre. It took about 4 hours drove down on a Sunday which was great as not much traffic.Did the route on line Mappy routes which gave

us the best route with a caravan and gave us toll charges. Also gives you pictures of motorway signs. Brilliant! If you have a GPS

ignore it it sends you through Paris!!. Westayed at Quatre Vents, which really is 10 Mins from Disney and a lovely site. We stayed the week and had 3 day passess. We had a great time. But then

I wasn't driving!!Catherine

Thanks Catherine thats excellent info! would you recommend it as a first adventure abroad or do you think it would be a bit ambitious and to try something a bit nearer the port to start with ?

Hi Tina,We started caravanning last year for our first trip abroad I thought it would be better to start with Normandy/Brittany.Big mistake! We had an over night stop in Cherboug.Caravan club directions were, lets just say minimal,we passed another couple who had to go back to the ferry port and start again as we did.I said to hubby bet the're going to same place as us with caravan club.Sure enough we found site after a very tight bend and a single track road. After 5 mins the other family turn up not impressed either. We stayed in a beautiful place at St Cast.Again caravan club

directions were naff!.My Hubby still has nightmares about steep narrow streets. We had a good holiday, but decided that it is just as easy to go from Le havre and get on a motorway to anywhere as motorway driving is very good in France. As long as you have clear

directions of your route before you start its a good a place to start as any.We really did enjoy it and the 4 hour journey was good for the kids. Are we there yet?My other halfs only worry was ending up in Paris with the caravan. But with the excellent route planner and the map it really wasn't a problem. However I have not

driven in France or towed the caravan but if you are confident

at those things I wouldn't think the trip should be a problem.Happy to help further if I can. Catherine

Hi Tina

I'd like to second Des Quatre Vents. We stayed there a few years back on our first caravan holiday abroad. The site is quite remote near a small hamlet in open countryside. It is, however, very handy for Disneyland Paris which is about 15 minutes easy drive from the site. Adjacent to Disneyland Paris is the railway station and the centre of Paris can be reached directly from there, about 40 minutes by train.

We booked the site and our, cheap, ferry crossing and personal and breakdown insurance with the Camping and Caravan Club Carefree Travel for an inclusive package. We, also, bought our Disneytland tickets from them (no queuing for tickets at Disneyland). CCC were very helpful. We have booked our ferry and insurance with them every year since although we now book our sites independently.

Des Quatre Vents is a very pleasant site in an orchard setting - you could pick the apples! There is an outdoor pool and games room and a variety of sports are organised. Bread van and Snack Vans call regularly. The site owners are very friendly and speak good English. The site even stays open late for residents returning from the Disneyland late night parade.

Our kids loved Disneyland Paris. We, also, did all of the Paris sites travelling in several times by train. There are cheap family rail tickets available at the Disneyland Rail Station and, also, passes to the museums and other famous sites. We "did" the Eiffel Tour, Louvre ("Mona Lisa", etc, L'Orangerie (Monet's "Water Lillies" and a lot of other sites.

As to towing for the first time in France. We coped okay. In fact we travelled on as far as Switzerland and returned back via Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg without mishap. The AA and other motoring organisations will provide free excellent route plans on the internet for all European destinations and we've always used these - they give directions turn by turn in easy steps and are really foolproof.

We've been travelling to Europe every year now for about 7 years without any serious mishap and would encourage you to "go for it" - there was a first time for us all.

There are lots of other helpful posts about "first time in France" if you look back through this website.

Hope you go and have a super time

Regards

Tim and Cary
