Do away with aquaroll

I have bought a ace jubilee prestige and was wondering if I can do away with the aquaroll if I stay on deluxe pitches. The caravan has an on board pump and the connection to the aquaroll is just a filter tube that connects to the caravan. Can I fit the hose to the inlet of the caravan and if so what hose do i need to get. Water will then be at mains pressure, again is this ok.

Regards

Ian,

No.... mains water pressure is generally too high for caravan use and is likely to blow joints etc which could result in some expensive interior water damage.

I use a Whale Aquasource, which is a food grade hose with tap connectors at one end and a pressure reducing valve at the other, which connects directly to the adaptor in place of my aqua roll hose.

I did read recently that this system could also cause internal problems if the pressure reduction valve failed but have been assured that the fail safe should dump the water externally if the situation ever arose.

The only other system I am aware of will not allow you to get rid of the Aqua roll as it actually utilises the barrel, on it's side with a ball **** cistern set up, which provides a constant supply of water to the barrel.

Cheers,

Ken.

I'm sure I saw a kit somewhere on one of the online shops specialising in caravan equipment that allowed you to do away with the aquaroll and plumb water in directly. I think the kit regulated the mains water pressure and shut it off thereby controlling the water pressure into the caravan.

I would have thought doing away with the aquaroll rather limits the sites/pitches you go to though.

On our Wyoming the aquaroll has to be used because it fills the onboard tank which can then be used in the same way as the aquaroll.

Ocassionally we stay on a fully serviced pitch and use the aquaroll with the mains adapter which is a ballcock as Ken describes.

I haven't seen any system that allows direct mains water connection to to the caravan pipes. It's not for me . Can you imagine the strain on the microswitches and plumbing. If anything gave way a major flood would occur. Use of the inboard tank /aquaroll alleviates I believe the major threat of a flood.

Chers

Alan et al,

We've used the Whale Aquasource for the past 2 years on our Wyoming without any problems and it does allow you to dispose of the Aqua roll if that's what you're specifically after.

We simply connect one end to the full service pitch tap (the kit contains various adaptors for differing taps) and the other end, which contains the pressure reducing valve fits into the side of the van in the same way as the hose from the Aqua roll.

The onboard system is likely to be different on your van Ian, but on the Wyoming we have 2 levers which control the direction of water flow ie;- aqua roll to onboard tank, onboard tank to taps or aqua roll to taps.

Using the Aqua source, we set the levers in the 'Aqua roll to taps' position, which then provides an immediate and constant supply of correct pressure water, every time a tap is opened.

If the pressure reduction valve ever failed, I have been assured that the connector is designed to dump the incoming water on the mains connection side ie;- before it enters the van, so the van should never get soaked as a result of excessive pressure failure.

However, as a fail safe, we got in to the habit of turning the pitch tap off if we were going out for the day, this was after a neighbour kindly turned our tap off while we were out, after an errant mongrel off it's lead managed to chew through the pipe alongside our van.

This was the same mongrel who's owners tethered it up on the vacant pitch alongside us and allowed it to do it's 'runny' biz there on a morning whilst I was breakfasting....I can still smell it now, but don't get me started on that subject or the current "Anti Kid's" thread will pale into insignificance!

Either of the mains systems would fail under such chewing conditions.

Hope you get sorted,

Ken.

I've got the one that goes in the side of the aqua roll keeping it topped up to about 20 litres. No problems with it. We do like to use serviced pitches but you can't always get one so we didn't want to get rid of the aqua roll altogether. Also agree with joby if you change your van it could be a problem.

We have just bought a 2008 Fleetwood Heritage 620 ES(6) and can't work out how to set the valves so as to bypass the onboard tank. We are going away for the weekend to try a serviced pitch and want to do without the aquaroll, just run from a Whale Aquasource Mains Water Connector. Is it possible? Our diagrams in the Fleetwood manual don't seem to match the actual set-up in the caravan. We use our caravan for a three week trip abroad each summer and want to reduce the equipment we take.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
