Whilst travelling south on the M1 recently I pulled into the Woodall services south of Sheffield. I followed the caravan signs, keep straight on, keep straight on again, and again, and, guess what, I was back on the motorway with no caravan parking in evidence.

This isn't the first time either. Last year on the M6, it may have been Keele services, we followed the signs again only to find ourselves heading back on the motorway. We did a quick right turn and went into the coach area but ready to do battle with any parking attendant that might have complained about where we parked.

Did we miss something or is it a cryptic message from the service area management saying that they don't want caravans parking.

John,

Your answer is the last paragraph, as you wont be spending money in their cafeteria, they don't feel the need to supply you with a suitable place to rest,

best regards, Martin

I have read the last paragraph.

Where does John say he wont be spending money in their cafeteria?

Graham,

I was answering this on behalf of Service Area Managers, as most caravanners just use the Toilets when stopping at these places.

It has been said before that the service stations would rather keep the parking space available for coach parties, who have no means of eating hot food, unless they pay over the odds at the mentioned outlets,

best regards, Martin

Tesco have a small glove box size booklet showing all their stores and what's on offer such as petrol, pharmacy, cafe. etc. We always refer to that as there is generally one not far from a motorway junction and a hell of a lot cheaper than the motorway services.
