does anyone bother with the wheelclamp whilst sited?

with the awning attached and the alko securely attached and also the internal alarm activated whilst away surely this would be adequate.

My insurance states a wheel clamp must be fitted,(I bet yours does too).

If the van is stolen and the clamp wasn`t on they would take great delight in telling me I was not getting paid out.

It`s a no brainer really.

well i am well ware of that. however how would they (insurance) know if one was fitted or not.

fact is vans are stolen with or without security devices fitted. if the theif want your van will a wheel clamp really stop them?

Having worked with thieving towrags for thirty years, I know that what they want they take, I had one old lag who took great pleasure in removing security items from cars and leaving them on the drive for the owner to find.

All the devices, wheel clamp, hitch lock, tracker etc do is slow the thief down. cutting off a clamp makes a noise.

If the thief can see a problem he will prob move on to find a softer target, like your van with no wheel clamp.

Maybe the insurance will want to see the damaged clamp if your van is knicked, hardly seems sense in buying one to chop it into pieces, better to put it on the van and let the low life do it for you.

Hi colin ,

I've just taken out insurance with the Caravan Club and the policy stipulates I have to have either a wheel clamp or hitch lock fitted at ALL times when the caravan is stationary. It doesn't detail what type of lock just that one or the other is required.

I'd check your small print if I were you.

surely the question is if you have got one why not use it like a hichlock and alarm you would not leave the alarm off would you?.

they weigh very little and are a deterent the more deterents you have got the less likly it is your van will be stolen.

we have all 3 fitted on the bailey and put them on whenever it is parked even inside the locked garage at home.

on site we allways put up the awning even on a weekend as this would take a thief a few minuets to remove the longer it would take a theif to get your rolling the more chance he would not bother so thats why my hitchlock and wheel clamp goes on even when stopping at a service station for a pee and cup of tea.

I always fit the hitchlock and wheelclamp when sited, apart from the obvious security advantages it takes only seconds, gets them safely out of the way and avoids losing bits of them in the front locker,car etc.

I really can not see a good reason not to fit it!
