Hi Pat and Reg, Hope you have luck in your search for the beaches, just a friendly bit of advice Exmouth is in Devon and not Dorset.
Depending on where abouts you stay in Dorset you could be looking at a 1 hour plus drive.

Just a word in defence of Pat. She's a woman and we all know what the fairer sex are like on their navigation and geography

hi

Wherever it is, just err on the side of caution.

Keep an eye on your dog at all times, if it's not trained in recall, keep it on a lead. Don't let it invade other dog's personal space as some dog's wont tolerate that. Pick up after it. Take plenty of fresh water for it to drink. Provide shade if needed. Be responsible.

Don't let it lap the sea water.

Have a great time but be considerate of other dogs which may not like dogs offlead getting too close.

I've been married to the same woman since 1967 Kev so I've had plenty of experience in living dangerously. Regarding Pat smacking my bum she wouldn't dare. I'd blow her hand orf

Apart from that hopefully I can run faster than her

Our Choc Lab loves to play in water. But we always aire on the side of caution and keep him on an 8 metre retractor lead. You see he's partial to ice cream and loves a Mc Flurrie. So never mind the seagull's watchout for Ted he's much quicker to devour your 99.

On a more serious note, it is advisable to take all the usual precautions of dog on lead, poop bags at hand, car well ventilated, etc etc. There are a lot of people who see a dog in a car and rightly so assume he isn't being looked after.

When I have no other choice but to leave my mate behind, I check the car every hour minimum, leave the estate boot window open and errect a shade over it, leave the windows half way down and switch on his 9 inch electric fan to keep him cool. Also on my car I have a safety sticker telling people that I check every hour minimum and also leave my mobile number should they wish to contact me.

Tuesday, we stopped at Mc D's in Kiddy, while taking the other half to the new QE in Brum. We had a meal and his nib's had a Mcflurrie. While we were eating a right chav walked past with his mates and I was quite suprised by his comments. He said, " That dog's F*****g beautiful, they're well lookin after him. Wish every F****r looked after their F*****g dogs like these F*****s do.

I took that as a real complement because if he could define a good dog and one being looked after, anyone should be able to. Another point I was reminded of was "don't judge a book by it's cover"!!

We're a very broad minded couple having got a son who sports a 6" mohawk at times and a uni student daughter, so being savvy with trends is part of us. The lad we met Tuesday was a great guy and will go far if he could loose the F's. I'd employ him as he showed he'd got reasoning and common sense.

Have you never heard of the Costa Del Tipton, home of the Black Country Navy?

Reg and Pat, you can buy a small parasole to provide some shade for your dog whilst you're on the beach. Best to buy one from one of these cheap shops, rather than beach shops as the beach shops charge double or triple what they'd cost in a 'normal' shop.

Don't leave your dog in a car, no matter how long, even with the widows half open and a bowl of water.

Is that sand I spy in the nose barrel of that Tipton frigate?
Here are some of the Black Country Navy irregulars celebrating with a local serving wench on a run ashore after successfully rescuing a stranded dog from an sandy island on Kidderminster Ring Road
