No power geting to the 12- volt side of my Dometic fridge in my 2003 Abbey Vogue caravan. Is there a hidden fuse somewhere???
Hello Stu,

The 12v system in a caravan has a "habitation" relay which only supplies 12V to the cooling side of the fridge when the caravan is connected to a tow vehicle and the vehicle's alternator is producing enough power to share with the fridge.

When the tow vehicle is disconnected the habitation relay prevents the caravans internal 12V supply from being connected to the 12V cooling side of the fridge, becasue it would place a large load on the system and would flatten the caravan battery within a few hours.

If you need to use the fridge on a pitch with no mains power, you should use the gas side of the fridge.

Many modern fridges do need a permanent low current 12V supply tp run their control panel, but this only controls the cooling system it does not power it.

Normally the only fuse in the 12V system for the fridges control panel is in the caravans fuse board.

Stu, ,I don' t know your fridge, do you mean 12 volts as the Prof explains, or does the fridge need 12 volts supply to run on the mains and gas. Some times the control panel has a battery compartment to fit a pp3 battery.

Thanks for reply guys

I understand the tow car supply needs to be connected when towing for it to work.
It's the gas side I am trying to get to work, but, there is no 12 volt supply to the fridge ignitor itself.

Can you tell us the exact model number of the fridge, and we'll see if we can find any more information.

You should find a label with the model number and its power ratings stuck inside the fridge.

Dometic don’t make it easy to get the service manuals for older fridges. Managed to find one in the end at the Gaslow website for my RM7550. The gaslow website doesn’t seem to have a specific one for the RM6xxx range but there might be commonality with the 7 series?? Useful troubleshooting principles in the 7 series manual for sure, link:

You should find a copy of the RM6271 manual here,

I have looked through the document, For the gas igniter to work, it does need a permanent 12V low current feed for the reignitor, , which should connect

positive to the violet and
0 volts to the black wire on top of the fridge.

There is no 12V fuse for the ignitor in the fridge's circuitry.

Check your voltages at the connector on top of the fridge.

Without a detailed knowledge of the wiring design of your caravan, I can't tell you where there might be a fuse, but usually its controlled by the caravans power distribution centre.
