Dometic fridge strange behaviour

Hi all,

So we got to our caravan today and connected mains etc. up as normal. Went to turn the fridge on, Dometic RMS8551, the lights on the panel flashed briefly as normal but instead of staying on went off. The internal light does the same thing. After a few seconds all the lights come on but very very faint, and other than the on/off button none of the others work. I’ve checked fuses and all are OK. 12v/mains is working in the rest of the van.
Any thoughts? As not sure how to keep our food cold for the next week.
Cheers,
Graham

Basics first.
Is the 230 v plug properly connected to the socket? They can work loose in transit.

You do of course have gas as a back up. Have you tried igniting on gas?
The internal light is 12 v .
A clue perhaps? Maybe a dry joints on the pcb.
However as you are away try and run on gas. It works very well. Then get a fix after yiur hols or call out a local AWS engineer.
This video may help

We have the tall Dometic RMS8551 fitted in our caravan. Not sure if you can check it on gas as the controls are electronic and you probably cannot select the gas icon.

First step is to measure the battery voltage and ensure that it is at least 12.7v. The 12v is what lights up the control panel. On some fridges the PC board corrodes and you then have a similar issue.

As suggested you may need an AWS technician to sort out the issue.

Thanks guys. Checked the plug, that’s ok. The problem is once it briefly flicks on none of the buttons are responsive so I can’t select a source, i.e gas or electric, and it’s obviously not defaulting to either. And no idea why it then has all the lights on but very faint. Getting it checked seems the best next step. For now I’ve put a couple of bags of ice in.
I’m now off to look at why I have a circle of blue stain on the bathroom wall. I suspect damp, but not sure from where as there’s nothing near it. Oh the joys of caravaning
