I recieved an airmail letter this morning from Dometic in Germany. There is a problem with the cooling unit, seemingly some of the screws that are used to fix the unit on the housing are of inferior quality and may loosen due to vibrations, the fridge/freezer is still usable but not on gas and must be isolated by the gas shut off valve.

The offending serial numbers are 401xxxxx to 734xxxxx these numbers are on the inside of the fridge door. If you have one of these fridges you must contact your supplying dealer.

Thank you for posting this, Allen. We have just checked our 2007 van. Yes, we will have to make another trip back to the dealership as our figure quoted on the door is bang in the middle of the range you quoted!!! Why can't anybody get things right the first time?

As we do not use 'gas' for the fridge we would not have noticed this problem. Thanks again.

Hi Ann,

I firmly believe if it had been a english firm still, a recall would have taken years if at all.And surely we should have heard from the suppliers and the caravan makers, you would have thought it would have been quicker,as a potential gas leak could have been life threatening,It just proves that they are only after your money, and when it comes to aftersales service they just do not give a toss.Well done Dometic.

Hi all

I got a letter this morning. Haven't had time to check the fridge yet but if when I do and I find that it is one that falls under this recall I will not be happy if Dometic tell me that I have to take it back to my supplying dealer. Ok so the dealer is only 50 miles away but that is still a 100 mile round trip plus taking the caravan out (fortunately I have it at home but its still a pain to get out from the side of the garage). When one works away from home during the week as I do my weekends are precious and I don't want to spend a day (or two days if I have to spread it over two weekends) to rectify a problem that is not of my making.

As I say I don't know if that is the situation but from what others are saying on the forum it appears that this is what is expected. If that is the case I will not be a happy bunny and I will tell Dometic in no uncertain terms that this is their problem and they should fix it with the minimum of inconvenience to me.

What do others think?

Cheers

Richard

I received a Recall letter. My van is in indoor Storeage so I can't even get even get in the door to check the Serial.

Contacted the Dometic number, they wouldn't even discuss where my nearest repairer is if I can't provide the serial no.

I askedfor a call back from someone senior. During the promptly returned call it was then explained that my Fridge was almost certainly involved, but at the moment I can't have it Fixed by my Bailey service dealer !!. This means it can't be fixed during the annual service but I have to take the van 40 miles past the bailey dealer to a Dometic agent - great.

I've contacted Bailey and I'm hoping they may put a little pressure on for the Bailey dealers to be able to fix the prob.

Maybe a few more emails from Bailey owners with the same problem may help.

We rang Dometic today to ascertain what we should do as we are affected by the problem (still no letter received in the post!). They suggested we took it back to our dealership and have them check it over. Thank goodness we are only a 10 minute drive away, but it is still inconvenient having to get the van off the driveway, where it is now winterised, and onto the main road. I think we will have a chat with our dealership first to see what it entails. Then, if necessary, have another go at Dometic.

Like others we have had the letter from Dometic, I checked as per the instructions and it appeared our fridge /freezer was one that is affected. I called the Dometic number, which I suspect is abroad from the ringtone, a very helpful man took all the details, and confirmed ours was one of the affected units, and gave me the number to phone for our nearest Dometic service agent. He is mobile and will come to us, he has been before to do warranty work on a previous van, so my advice to those of you worried about returning vans to dealers, ask for a mobile Dometic service engineer, bearing in mind that Dometic say the job should take very little time.

I have just been on the Dometic website, trying to locate an email address. However, there doesn't seem to be one listed. Can anyone who has received correspondence on this RECALL product have a look at the letter and, possibly, let me know if there is an email address available. I can see my local dealership looking blank when I go into the showroom without documentation to hand.

Thanks for your help.

For everyones information, Dometic have a dedicated helpline for this recall and the telephone number is 00800 36638420. For Swift customers if you quote your caravan serial number and postcode they can tell you if you are affected.

Alternatively if you are concerned and you contact our Customer Careline on 01482 875740, we can also tell you if your caravan is affected or not.

Hi Kath

This is the second time in a few weekas you have taken an active interest in members comments. Well done. Good to se Swift taking such an active interest.

Maybe other manufacturers will follow where necessary.

Cheers

I just wish that more was being done by Swift and toher folk re the tyre debacle.

Just issuing a recall is not helping some of us - we were not recalled as our tyres were outwith the batch.

Swift sould be asling if any other folk have had the same/similar problem.

I fail to believe we are the only ones

A proactive campaign has been launched for specific batches on the Matador tyres. However, if you have any issues with your tyres, you should ask your dealer to inspect your tyres.

Alternatively, if the issue you are concerned about shows up on a photograph this could be sent to your dealer or to Swift at enquiries@swiftleisure.co.uk. (Please include the DOT number on the tyre) We will then follow this through with you and let you know the outcome.

Regards

Hi

Just have just got back from a weekend away on a cl near Evesham about 6 miles away from mendip caravans from where we bought our Compass Rallye,I asked them while we were onsite to do a few jobs under warranty they agreed to send an engineer to rectify the faults,I also mentioned the letter from dometic re the fridge/freezer,we had been booked in with stowmarket caravans which is closer to our home (Woodbridge),they said no problem they will send a gas fitter at the same time.

They had the job done in 15 mins plus the warranty work,Well done Mendip caravans Evesham.

Hi all

Phoned Dometic at the weekend and my fridge/freezer is one of the affected ones.

Gave the guy on the end of the phone my details to be told to ring back in 3/4 weeks as they do not have an authorised agent in my area.

I would have thought they would have organised this before sending the letter!!!

Just as well its the winter and we are not using the caravan.

Cheers
