My wife and I have just bought a New 2008 Bailey Pageant 5 berth. We looked at the Awnings at the dealers. They have a used Dorema Montana in Blue and mint condition. They want £300 for it. Does anyone know if this is a fair price and what the awnings are like?

Our first Dorema madison had to have all the eyelets repalced after 3 months. Our second Dorema madison had to have all the poles repalced after one use. Then it has to be repaired becasue the stitching came apart. after less than 2 years use our "blue" awning had faed to green in colour, not faded blue. Last year we had to sedn it back again for the stitching to be redone. Later on in the year we had to send it away again for one of the zips to be replaced. Would we buy Dorema again, I don't think so!

Hi Tugster

Our first awning was a Kalahri. Easy to put up and looked beautifully neat. Our second awning,a Dorema, (bought to fit a new 'van) blew down on three occasions with bent poles etc. Our latest awning is an Isabella and looks beatiful and like the Kalahari, hasn't blown down, looks good and is extremely easy to put up. I personally would never buy another Dorema as I believe you get what you pay for. It may be better to save a bit longer and buy something you are sure will last.

Regards

Denise

We bought a Dorema 2 years ago at the caravan show at Birmingham and can honestly say it is the best awning I have ever had.

As my wife is disabled we used to struggle to put up an awning but after buying a Dorema with the fibreglass poles we can erect it no problem.

This is a mine field!!

My bailey book says that my awning size is 1008cm. Does this mean I have to go for one this size, or can I use what size I want?

Still looking into the makes of awnings you have all said and if there any more then keep them coming please.

Hi Tugster, It's not as complicated as it seems, yes the 1008 quoted in your book is the size of awning you require, that size is the measurement from the ground at the front of your van up and along the awning rail to the ground at the rear whilst the van is level and on level ground. Most awning manufactures give a size that will accomodate a number of different vans eg 925 - 950, as long as the awning you buy comes within these measurements you should have no problem. If you buy a porch awning then you need to take into account where on your van the awning is going to sit, obviously you want it to cover the door but depending on the measurement you need to check if it is going to cover half the window for instance. Hope this makes things a little clearer for you, but if you are buying from a dealer whether its new or second hand make sure they Know what van you have and most will advise you accordingly.Make sure you are 100% happy before parting with any money as the wrong awning can be a very expensive mistake.
