Watched a 1954/55 B&W film last night - "The Long Arm" starring Jack Hawkins. One scene at a junk yard two boys are trying to sell a car spot lamp to the dealer.
In the background there appears to be an old double decker caravan being used as a store/office.Never seen one of these on the road or on sites.
Were they popular and why did they fall out of favour.

I have seen something similar to the Berkley but as far as I know they never caught on. Given the effect modern caravans have on fuel consumption imagine a what few feet more on top would do.

Yes, we saw that .
Wasn't it a Bedford O type pulling it and it ,ahem, proceeded to fail to proceed .
A great idea though with oodles of room and with penthouse view on the site .
One downer would be a high centre of gravity and a necessary prior knowledge as per hgv driver of bridge etc heights.
