Can anyone offer any advice about driving through Rouen, we are doing the Calais to St-Jean-de-Monts drive, and looking on a map Rouen looks a bit of a tricky drive to navigate. Is this the case or does it just look bad on a map. We get off the Ferry at 5.00am so I'm hoping to be through Rouen by 7.30- 8.00 ish to miss the traffic (I hope).

Rouen is a doddle ! When you come down the E 402 you enter a long tunnel running down hill. At the bottom exit you are on a ring road dual carriageway still taking the E402. Keep your eyes peeled for the small sign for Le Mans above the road and you should be in the right hand lane for a very tight turn to the right that loops you under the road you have come along and the turning is by the river.

The road around to the right takes you along more dual carriageway through a large industrial area for about two miles or so to a roundabout with "COWS" on it.

Go straight on at the roandabout along more dual carriageway up hill to roaundabout and straight on and bare to right onto motorway and then keep going past old castle ruins on right and then take signs for Le Mans.

Go to www.viamichelin.com enter start and destination then you can open and print off maps all along the route if you want.

Calais / Rouen is about 135 miles and even in traffic its easy but remember you MUST be in right hand lane as soon as you see the overhead LeMans sign ahead of you !

SMA65,

from Calais the A28 now goes direclty into Rouen, so its dual carriageway or motorway all the way there, navigating through Rouen is now not so difficult.............

just continue straight on from the end of the A28 towards the centre of Rouen (still on dual carriageway) cross the river Seine, once over the bridge turn left, keep following the dual carriageway through all the "Zone industrial" eventually you'll see the sign for the A13 & eh viola!!

See this link for travelling times, add about 1/2 hour for St Jean de Monts.http://www.practicalcaravan.com/newforums/fm_messages.asp?FO=7&FM=287954

For the best directions use www.viamichelin.com it even has the location of all the camera's & what limit they're set at.

Driving through Rouen was easy but if you are using a TomTom sat nav beware it takes you under a very low tunnel, not good if you have bikes on the roof of the car. it wasn't us we were following a guy who had sat nav he was watching the sat nav and wasn't watching the road.
