Dunkirk to Brenner

Which is the best route from Dunkirk to the Brenner pass? Previously I've gone via Brussels, Liege, Cologne, Frankfurt, Nurnburg, Munich.
On google maps it suggests cutting off at Cologne to go via Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. (saving 50miles or so)
is it a good route in terms of fuel efficiency or traffic avoidance or should I stick with the familiar route via Frankfurt etc?
Any advice please?

whichever route you choose its difficult to pencil in traffic or roadworks delay, using a site like tom tom live map at least gives you info
on likley time delays or traffic hold ups at any given time of day. yesterday traffic around stutgart was bad due to road works although we ecountered a fare few road works restrictions on our given route of hiedelbourg to luxembourg and onto dunkirk via brussels.
We take the 10 mile longar route via luxembourg for the cheaper fuel and we dont go around munich but take the A7 at Ulm down to fussen and onto the the fern pass which actually is not a bad route for a pass only a few twisty's at the top of the pass which isnt a high pass really at a around 1100m and is much shorter than going all the way around munich. looks like you are hitting the brenner area
at just about the right time, as its been having a right mixture of heat and flash floods of late.
any way have a good trip,
