Duplicating Names

Is there any method available whereby duplicating of names can be avoided? I see there is yet another 'Ann' just signed up.

In your profile you can add any thing you want to your name.

There were several Graham's so I just added a bit extra

As Graham says, you can easily change your nic. I appreciate you shouldn't have to, but there it is.
