well all, have been meaning to post this query for a while.I keep my van on a permanent pitch from easter to end sept and always seem to have problems with ear wigs in the van it is on hard core surrounded with grass at the seaside, the van is a series 6, Bretagne 2007.Have been pondering with the idea of covering the ventilation holes with a smaller netting thinking this would maybe stop their getting in,If anybody has any ideas on what material i could use or if i should stick it over the vent holes without blocking them or any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Sean.

Hello Sean,

The current size and number of ventilation holes are essential for your safety and to keep the caravan compliant with the regulations. By using a finer mesh within the current vents you will restrict the the free ventilation. You can over come this by leaving the current vents in situe, but forming the new mesh over a larger dome (such as an upturned cereal bowl). This will increase the surface area of the new mesh, and thus compensate for the finer graticule.

I am not sure though that this will fully solve your problem, as these insects can climb through some very small holes or cracks, such as you might find around the door and window seals.

Sean,

Perhaps not the complete solution but this might be of some help. Some of the aerosol insect repellent/killer you can buy have a long lasting action when used on hard surfaces. Normally every Spring I give the areas around the vents, hard surface floors under beds, in cupboards etc. a spray. This obviously doesn't stop the creepie crawlies from coming in but is supposed to kill them in a short space of time. Stops them getting comfy and multiplying!

Offhand I can't remember the name of the one I'm using but they are readily available from supermarkets.

Robert
