Hi, we've got a Lunar Chateau 450 (2003) with a Bradcot Sport awning with steel poles. This is a great awning once up but a real hassle to erect, especially as we have 3 young children who need watching....... Can anyone advise on a good full size replacement that is lightweight(ish), easy / quick to erect and quick to dry out, as every time we use the van it always seems to rain as we set up and pack away (must be jinxed.... still have a great time though!). We already have a lightweight mid size porch awning but need a full size one to add another bedroom (5 in the Lunar is a bit of a squeeze even though it is designated as a [small] 5 berth).

Thanks

Keith

I purchased a Dorema awning direct from their factory off the M62 between Leeds and the A1. I purchased it off the internet, last years model with aluminium poles. Much lighter than the steel poles. I am not sure of the cost but it was in the region of

I have a sunncamp lightweight awning But the size you can fit depends on the length of awning rail on your van.I can only fit the 260 on mine even though i have a 7metre van as the front section of the roof slopes down

Have a look at the Fiamma Caravanstore Zip awning. The top (and main poles of this stay in a bag on the awning rail and will be much quicker to store than folding up a lot of material. The sides etc. are lightweight but should dry off quickly. Quite expensive, though

Hi Keith

We had a sport like you, however upgraded van this year and as usual the awning did not fit so purchased new one, we stayed with Bradcot but went for the classic (only because Sport was out of stock) but also updgraded to easy pole system they are light weigth and so much easier to erect made all the difference, especially as hubby can no longer help so mainly down to me, you don't have to worry about tensioning the poles and you pull them out and they click into place, to take down press the button and telescopic pole contracts, well worth the extra

In the last 5 years we have had an apache full awning, very heavy but easy to errect. changed van and had a bradcot with carbon fibre, too big and cumbersome so sold that and got a bradcot portico plus with easy alloy, still a hastle to get dried after wet weekends so thats now for sale and we are actually very happy with our sunncamp ultima 390 which is quick and easy to put up/take down and easier to dry out when we get home
