Hi,I used to have a full sized awning for my last caravan, but it was a nightmare to erect. I changed van in December and I am thinking of buying a porch awning. My local caravan dealer give me a brochure for StarCamp awnings (cheaper Dorema copies) and it included a porch awning that looks like other than having to thread on to the awning rail it erects like a dome tent (ie flexible carbon rods). These are called the Fun (or Sport which is the same as the fun but with heavier material). Does anyone have any experience of this type of awning (which looks very similar to one called Sunncamp which Towsure sell). Are they any good?

I have a Sunncamp porch awning and have found it much easier to erect than my Dorema Toronto porch awning,which is a nightmare,how ever many times I put it up.But! A problem exists with these lightweight awnings with carbon rods.The first time I used it the wind got up during the night,and although the awning stood up to the gusts,when I took it down there were two dents in the side of my Bailey Pageant.These indentations were caused by the carbon poles banging into the van wall,even though they were in their little pockets.When I mentioned this to my supplier,he said that he had heard of this before and that I should have put some packing between the end of the poles and the caravan wall.Pity that wasn't in the instuctions!

I have a Sunncamp plus which is easy to erect and I use rubber suckers on the ends of the poles to avoid the problem with the poles tapping against the caravan sides.
The Sunncamp awning is very good as long as it's pegged down properly and it's light and easy to transport in it's carrying bag.

I had a Basecamp (the forerunner of the Suncamp).
In the winds last year it also marked the top of our Wyoming and kind of imploded on itself in the wind.The black poles finally split longitudinally so it's now up in the loft.
Providing you are not going anywhere windy it does the job and is very easy to erect and very light.

we have a sunncamp porch awning and its great we fit the dogs cage and our coats and muddy boots. my in laws are selling a pyrimid porch awning its been used twice i think its a tuscany its acrylic aswell. if you interested let me know.

We have a techlite 1. Only one pole that is not next to the van. Quite large and easy to get up (as the bishop said to the actress).

Hi I have bought the Techlite 1 as well easy to put up I had mine up in the snow never had a problem
I looked at the Outdoor Revolution Techlite at Highbridge today - it certainly looks good and very easy to put up - and you can keep it on the van.
I liked the idea of having no poles against the van.
Does anyone else have any comments on the Techlite?

Is your loft awning a Base Camp Panorama XL? If so, you can have the poles from ours if you are passing South Wales. It was an OK awning, but we are now missing one of the side panels (it is much too long and boring a story) so have replaced it with another awning. I was going to throw the remains of the Panorama out to the rubbish this week but you are welcome if you want to resurrect yours.

We.ve just bought the 2009 sunncamp 260. It's stability is now much improved with vertical aluminium poles against the caravan and aluminium cross braces in the roof. Solid as a rock! Make sure you get the 2009 version though.

I've had a chat with her indoors and she's paranoid about damaging the Wyoming again. The rest of the awning is in good condition. Would you like it FOC if you are passing Cricklade / Cirencester?

Sorry I haven't looked at the forum for a few days. Our van is booked in to Chipping Sodbury Caravans for a service on 1st April and Sue and I planned to potter around some of the Cotswolds while they fettled it. If you around that day we could swap awning parts. You are very welcome to have the remains of ours free of charge as we have just bought an Isabella Magnum at the NEC and I don't think we will have much use for the Panorama. However if there is really no way you will use yours again I will happily take it off your hands and hold it in reserve for those rare two day breaks.
If we can meet up I will ask the mods to pass on my email address.

I'll ask Mods to give you my e-mail etc . All our caravans in recent years have come from Chipping Sodbury, with no regrets. Tony Voisey and his team in the workshops do a great job.
I doubt very much the maimsahib will want the Basecamp up again so you are very welcome to have the whole thing.

Had a PDQ once. Good idea in principle but ours was a disaster. They have updated them since so may be better. We now use a Dorema porch awning. Does not take too long to put up and does the job beautifully
