I do not have any instructions for my fridge,

It has a switch on right which shows... off, battery or mains, plus a dial for temp, and one on the left which I think is just for gas operation. I have tried testing the fridge on mains hook up at home, by putting the switch on right to mains and checking the wall switch is on for fridge. Well it does not work, am I doing something wrong or is the fridge broken??

thanks

Laurie

This happened to us when at home and we hadn't switched the caravan electric tripp switch so I would check that you have electricity coming into van , otherwise the procedure you have done with fridge is what we do and we have the same layout as you.Hope this is useful.

Oh dear this does not sound to good then, the trip switch is on, all lights and radio are working but not the fridge.

The switch on the wall for fridge has on/off position, am I right thinking it should be in the on position when trying to run it by mains? If so I think fridge must be faulty.

Hi laureen,

Make sure you have mains to the van, that all the trip switches are in the correct position, the wall switch is set to on, the fridge is set to mains, and the temp control is set to max.

Leave it running for a couple of hours at least, then check if its cooling.

Best way is put a thermometer in the freezer box, noting the temp when you put it in, and the temp when you check it.

If its not working, then the heater element has broken, and needs replacing, which should be no problem, depending how old the fridge is.

If your van is fairly new, the fridge mains connection may be by domestic type 3pin plug and socket. If so plug will have a fuse in it which may have blown. Needs to be 3 or 5 amp not 13 which you may find.

Laureen, it is possible to do yourself, if you are ok with electric wiring, and able to get the fridge out of its housing enough to access the heater tube in which the element sits.

If you ar enot familiar with th eelectric side, then get repair engineer in to do it.

You will need the Model number of the fridge, usually starts RM****

and the build number, the long number, both of which *should* be on a reference plate or label just inside the door of the fridge.

Without these numbers you will not be able to get the right element, if its still available.
