Electrolux fridge- RM4271 fitted in our Abbey Expression 2001

I cannot make the fridge work on Mains- it works fine on gas and presumably car- does anyone have any experience of this problem or a contact I can talk to to try and get it fixed- I didn't realise new ones cost £400 plus

Jim,

If it works on gas - then the working fluid and internals are all OK - so it's probably just down to a faulty power supply.

If you fell competent to error trace 230 Volt mains, then take a look at:

1. Any master switches on your caravan power board

2. Any fuses, RCD or MCB trips

3. The 230 Volt heating element - and it could well be this that has failed.

1 and 2 should be easy, 3 needs a bit of work or experience.

My fridge failed on mains and it was the element. Finally tracked down a replacement from Electrolux and fitted it myself. Its a bit tricky removing the fridge from its housing but if you're a dab hand, it can be done. Good luck, Robin.

I would unplug the 13amp plug to the fridge and plug in a mains tester to see if you have 230V.

Then check the fridge fuse and if both are OK and there are no bad connections on the fridge then it sounds like the heater element

We had this on a new van once and Electrolux cam to the house to fix it under warranty

Hi Jim

Your symptoms sound similar to the ones we had in our Abbey,is the light on when on mains power, if it is you have power to the fridge and is probably the element as previously suggested, if the light is not on it is worth checking the fuses in case one has blown,we had problem where light was not working, but it was only a dirty contact, if you cannot find anything obviously wrong, I would phone Dometic, the number I have is 01582 494111, explain the problem to them and they will arrange for a mobile service engineer to inspect the fridge, we have always had ours done under warranty, but I suspect with the age of your van it will be chargeable, although I can't see it being

Jim, unless you are happy to find the fault yourself, which may mean taking the fridge out, a call to your local Dometic (formerly Electrolux) engineer will get him to come and fix it for somewhere around
