Electrolux fridge

Hi

This is probably a very basic question with probably quite a simple answer but I can't seem to work it out. I bought a used Compass Rallye 430 that has an Electrolux 3 way fridge installed. In the hope of getting the fridge cold before we go away I the the van on the drive connected to the household electricity via the hook up lead. All of the lights etc work ok so I assume that the supply is ok. I have looked in the bit at the front inside where all the switches are and everything is on. I have switched the fridge to the setting for mains power and turned the thermostat to just below max, the gas switch is off. It's been hooked up like this for three days now and the fridge still isn't cold. At this point the van is not level as my drive slopes too much for me to be able to achieve this. I also have no gas until tomorrow so can't try it on gas.

Whilst I'm on, what is the maximum current available from a site hook up, could I use my 800 watt microwave oven?

Many thanks

Ken.

Hi Ken

Dont know what the problem is with your fridge as this is what we always do the night before we go away. Are you sure there isn't a problem with the fridge itself.

As for the micro I use a 800 watt in my van have never had a problem on any site we have been to, even ones with 10 amp hook-ups, we use the van throughout the winter and back in January I had the micro a halogen heater the fridge and the tv going at the same time. Dont go for a micro that they sell in the caravan shops I had mine from Wilkinsons and paid

If the fridge is not level, or very near level it simply will not work, but you may well burn the electric element out trying to make it do so.

Even if you had gas available, with not being level it stil will not work

I quite agree with Damian that the fridge needs to be level, or nearly level, but just thought it worth mentioning that there is sometimes a fused switch for the mains supply to the fridge, same size as a single mains socket.
