Hi All, we owned a George Forman and it lasted approx. 2 months,

the plates were impossible to clean so the best we could do was to wipe it down with wipes and kitchen roll. However after a month in storage the van smelt like a chip shop/fishmonger. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone and it even smelt bad in the cupboard of the house! So after 2 months we cut our loses and binned it !

Comet sell the sponges for cleaning the George Foreman grills. Although the sponges themselves don't last very long, they are brilliant - I usually put a very small squirt of washing up liquid on the sponge and the grill is cleaned with very little effort.

We bought a `leccy barbie in France a couple of years ago and its fine.

It sits on a table top like a compact gas barbie, but has a thermostatically controlled element (like you get for toasting in an electric oven) over which fits a non-stick cast aluminium grill plate. you pour a litre of water between the element into the main body of the unit which serves to reduce smoke and make clean-up easy.

It takes a bit longer to cook, but you dont get incinerated outside/raw inside food, and theres no danger of setting fire to the van, awning, dog etc. Very light, easy to clean, easy to cook with, it might not be `authentic` but with a bit of creative marinade use its fine.

There were loads in the French hypermarkets, this was `mid-range` (30 Euros)so hardly expensive. Decent cooking area (about 22x15 inches) so you can do a fair bit all at once, outer edges cooler than centre, its the safe option if you`ve had a glass of wine or seven.

Also carry a gas one, but its more hassle.
