Elvaston castle (Derbyshire)

Hi ,

Planning to visite CC site Elvaston castle, has any kind person out there visited this site, and also bit confused about the route from junction 24 M1 to the site.

Hi I have never visited the CC site but many times the rally field adjacent,it is a lovely spot .Not sure of your problem with route it is M1 south (or North)then south on A38 then take A50 and left to Alveston.

Elveston Castle isn't accepting Motorhomes at the present due to waterloged pitches and CC are requesting you contact the site prior to your visit.

Plotter, coming up the M11 from the A14 to junction 24, following the CC instructions they do not mention the A6 turn off from the A50, I assume this is okay for caravans.

Thanks for the info, I do not own a motorhome but will ring the site about a week before to make sure that the site is okay.

Yes the A50 / A6 link is fine for caravans as it is a duel carriagway. At the end of the link road you want right hand lane onto R/A and want to turn right at R/A (3rd exit I think) then after a bit on A6 turn left on the road the site is off - then another left into the castle car park and left out of car park to site entrance.

Lots of caravans on the site today and some arriving so probably not too bad although they do have a sign advising care when pitching due to waterlogged pitches. On the whole the country park has dried out well after some flooding previously and has been very busy this weekend with people enjoying the sun!.

If my directions are not clear please ask or if you need to know anything else as I live locally.

Hi Royston,

Just to add its J2 A50. It is 3rd exit at R/A and about 1/2 a mile you need to turn left into Broad Lane (Village of Thulston) it gets a bit narrow a bit bumpy the last mile.
