Environmental Zones in Germany

Hi all,

Were hoping to meet friends this autumn in Germany. Never been before, hubby found some info about these Zones.

Lutz will most probably save the day and explain them to me and what we must buy. But feel free if anyone else can enlighten me..

Where are the days when we could just go and drive!!!

The Environmental Zone scheme that applies to certain cities is very similar to the Low Emission Zone one in London except that you only pay once (for the sticker) and this sticker remains valid for as long as the car is registered.

There are several sources from which the sticker can be obtained prior to arriving in Germany. Probably the cheapest by post and where you can order by credit card is through the T

Assuming you cross the border into Germany in the state of North Rhine Westphalia, you can find the centres by clicking on the map on the respective T

Smiley, We bought ours on line, in the UK before we went to Germany this Spring. We got it, as Lutz states, from tuev-sued website and it was very easy just scanned the car documents and sent with the form by email with card payment. It was in the house 4 days later. Glad we had it as we went into Ulm and accidently into Karlsruhe with the caravan in tow, Nasty with loads of road works. We found this year that Germany is spending a lot of time and money on it's roads, Good for them.

Have a wonderful time as we did.

Dianne
