Erratic water supply - Truma Ultraflow

I have just returned from my third outing with our new Abbey 416 GTS.....fabulous 'van and very comfortable. Being new to the caravanning hobby, I have had a few issues (mostly "finger trouble" on my part)but on the whole a very enjoyable experience.

However, one thing that really irritataes my wife and I is the fact that the water supply is erratic! The problem seems to stem from the Truma Ultraflow supply pipe in the external water source. Whenever the water level gets to about half full, the filter on the end of the supply hose tends to "float", allowing air into the system and causing severe splashbacks or water stappages. A few lifts and drops of the hose unit cures it for a short while but it is frustrating to have to refill the water container so often. Is there a recommended fix for this problem, such as a weighted filter or "tube stiffener" to keep the filter at the bottom of the water container?

Any help will be greatly appreciated and cause peace and tranquility to prevail once more!

We have put some pipe insulation over the inlet tube - this stops it from freezing and holds the end of the tube down. I don't bother with a filter - if you use fresh water from a tap it shouldn't need to be filtered.

A problem that I have noticed when using a filter (this is on my boat where I have an inboard tank)is that the filter actually strips the chlorine from the water supply so any water between the filter and the outlet can turn foul. I can see this being a problem with an inboard tank where the filter is situated at the fill point on the van.

I have the same type and don't have any problems it drains the aquaroll to the bottom, are you sure you are not pushing too much hose into the barrel causing the filter to be pushed / float upwards, just put enough hose in till you feel the the filter touch the bottom o the barrel then slide the cover onto the barrel inlet and try that (if you aren't already!!)

Thanks for the replies.

I have to own up that I was pushing the tube in most of the way, so it makes sense that the remainder will curl back up.......doh!

I'll give your tips a go next time out.

Thanks again

John
