An interesting and detailed paper. I wonder if any PC forum members have experienced similar results with a EU 6 engine.

I'm unsure if labelling Euro 6 is the right thing to do. Different manufacturers meet E6 by different routes.
Diesel is evil after all

As the original vehicle in the linked item isn't identified, it may be a particular variant of a particular vehicle. Is it factory fit, aftermarket OEM or a backstreet fitter wot did do the wiring?

I'm on my 2nd Euro6 tow car, neither have had any issues. However on both the wiring for the tow bar is part of the harness, and that is coded into the car. The first at aftermarket OEM fitment, the second at factory build.

I know some manufacturers do not fit full electrics on factory fitted towing modules, nor aftermarket.

Is regen only for hybrids?

Mine is EU 5 and has regenerative braking to top up the car battery used for stop-start. But this is an economy measure and it's not a hybrid transmission system. Stop-start is inhibited when connected to the caravan and I switch it off other times anyway. No problems with caravan battery state of charge.

My guess is that the Amarok had not been programmed for towing, so the ECU did not know the trailer was there.

Hence why some people have issues and others don't.

Both my previous & present tow cars have Euro6 compliant engines & both of them towed my current caravan with no issues re battery charging.

However, the article in the OP is very interesting? but notwithstanding the info contained in it, I would hazard a guess & say that Woodentop has hit the nail on the head!

Both my cars have had aftermarket tow bars fitted, but had the dedicated wiring looms, plus the ECU's reset to tell the car that it has got a tow bar & trailer (caravan) when the trailer's plugged into the car's towing socket.

Previous car: Citroen C4 Picasso exclusive 2ltr 150bhp, probably the worst car I have ever owned!

I am wondering that if you are towing with an EV whether it will draw power from the leisure battery?

This is an interesting article that may help some of you with flat leisure batteries.

I've been travelling for the past two weeks so only seen this. I've heard mention of Euro6 cars not charging the van battery. Looking at the article's diagram - surely if the feed for the fridge and van battery was taken directly from the car battery, the alternator would keep working to keep the voltage high?
