Excellent factual observation.

A joke was posted on this forum regarding people flying flags from their cars and was then removed. Pity because I have never laughed so long and so hard. My wife thought it was absolutely hilarious.

I forwarded it onto my South African friends and they all thought it was hilarious as it was probably a good refection on flag carrying cars not necessary English.

From the above you can guess that we don't like football along with millions of other people in countries around the globe and especially the host nation.

However we a really loking forward to the days when England are playing as shopping will be absolute bliss. We have already sussed out which pubs are not showing the football matches so even better. :)

Hi Ian

Unfortunately I didn't see the joke but the likelihood is that it was removed because it was inappropriate for this particular forum.

I can only hope that you will enjoy your shopping as much as the rest of us will enjoy watching the World Cup.

If it's the one about the 3 inch wotsits, then my daughter sent it to me as a text message. I haven't laughed so much for ages. Could be because I'm not a football fan...

You might not have seen the post Parksy but you will have done so in the past. It's the same joke that's done the rounds for a long time now. I thought it was funny back in 1978 but now it's a bit stale and some are still catching up after having been living in a time warp .... heh! heh! heh!

It's usually resurrected because of sour grapes and the inability to think of a fresh joke :O)

Like everyone else I find most of the jokes extremely funny but the criteria has to be that if the magazine wouldn't print it the joke gets taken off.

The biggest laugh of all for me is the pundits, whenever England qualify they always have the ubiquitous 'Scots Bloke' there to tell us how we're doing it all wrong!

I can confirm that the "joke" from Clive(Cardiff) was removed following an email to me from the Publishers.

As LB has said, in 1978 it was funny, now it is past its sell by date and was not thought suitable for the forum.

While I accept your decision to remove the post, if you had notified me at the time you removed it, I would not have put it on a second time.

As for your remark that it was funny in 1978, it was new to me, from some of the feedback before it was removed, and on this thread, it was new for some other people as well.

Can understand why it was removed but still absolutely hilarious and maybe true about the drivers which is why they take offence. :)

It was a very funny joke, whether it was first circulated in the 70's or not. I actually thought it had an element of truth to it too.

Lisa

Note to self, never attend a party if there's a slight possibility that the barrel of laughs 'publishers' might be attending.......

What you have to remember Clive is that you have (Cahrdif) after your nic which does tend to give the impression, as a no-hope soccer nation, that it's sour grapes ;O)

Besides, although I'm not usually prone to boasting, I have a 3'x2' flag on mine :O)

Anyway, I digress, did you hear of the Welshman chasing sheep while wearing a kilt?

Heh! heh! heh!

There are definitely mods who support England and who will enjoy watching the world cup Clive.

Many internet forums including some of those associated with caravanning happily allow all sorts of jokes and comments.

These other forums often have a separate section specifically for jokes etc and the members of these forums can choose whether or not to access the joke section.

That facility doesn't exist on this particular forum.

This forum is owned and hosted by the UK's leading caravan magazine Clive and as such it is bound to adhere to standards which are governed by the overall content of the magazine.

Would the joke that you found so hilarious have been printed in the Practical Caravan Magazine?

Having met the editor and some of the feature writers of Practical Caravan magazine as well as our forum back room staff I can assure you that their sense of humour is intact and I've no doubt that most of them would be amused by the joke in question (even if it was ancient).

We do our best to uphold standards of good taste and decency on Practical Caravan forum, there will always be those who find the restrictions irksome but we try to provide a haven from the low standards prevalent throughout the internet which means that this forum strives to be acceptable to all

As a forum we follow the line set by the editorial content of the magazine because anything written on this forum reflects on the magazine for good or for ill.

Sorry I thought that the Chit Chat ("For non-caravan issues: jokes, trivia, gossip") was a place where jokes were allowed.

I've never been a football supporter but think your opinion of welsh football is probably spot on. So it's not sour grapes, honest. If Wales were there I still wouldnt turn the telly on.

About the size of your flag, are you trying to prove your not a member of the minimus brigade? :-O

Sorry Clive, it was a typo.

I should have put 3"x2" flag which is plenty big enough to cover my embarrassment :O(

I have to complain here and now.

F1 is THE sport that should have priority over the kicking of a leather ball around an acre of ground.

Or is the whole concept of advanced aerodynamics and engineering too much for the leather ball brigade to fathom?

Viva McLaren !!!!
