Hello Jennifer

Technically it is not a warranty it is an insurance policy!.

Given that with most fairly technical products, problems if they do arise tend to be in the first year, then for the next few years they are generally problem free, so it is pretty fair bet that if you fork out your

Jennifer,

If you have have (had) a 3 year warranty you have a British caravan If you have a British caravan it will leak, no question about it. (I'd lay a good sum that it's already leaking, bust hasn't yet manifested itself - this is simply the norm with UK vans as many here will testify to, apart from one Bailey fanatic who I can think of)

So, if your extended warranty covers water ingress - grab it with both hands - you WILL, repeat WILL, need it. Now is the precise time at which damp damage breaks through the vinyl wall coverings (which a cynic might think is used by the UK trade to disguise water damage for as long as possible) which is why the warranties used to stop at 3 years - any longer was commercial suicide, and the manufacturers knew it.

Damp repairs cost a LOT! - make sure that the extended warranty covers water ingress and buy it at 9am tomorrow.

Hi Geist

If I am the fanatic I have to disappoint you!

I've never kept any of my Bailey's more than three years so I can't comment.

Damp is the carcenoma of all caravans.

I go for / like the 6 year water ingress guarantees, which are subject to annual inspections to remain valid.

Yes I am a Bailey and Swift fan; always served me well.

I guess it's all as good as the sealant used and so on.

Jennifer doesn't say who manufactured her caravan , but only three years doesn't inspire me.

Extended warranties? Never bought one in my life but I can see the advantages for Jennifer if the warranty is worth the paper it's written on.

Cheers

Alan

Jennifer,

Don't let Geist give you the impression all British vans leak. I have had 11 British caravans from new and only 1 leaked. Likewise many friends who would tell you the same.

Usually it is only bad news which gets on the forum.

I have friends ,one with a Hyner and one with a Burstner and both had leaks. There are tens of thousands of caravans which never leak.

This forum should be to help caravaners not distress them.

If you are a worrier, like me, i would take out the extended warranty.

"Don't let Geist give you the impression all British vans leak."

I'm not even going to bother getting drawn into this one - the facts are incontrovertible, and have been reaffirmed time and time again on this, and every other, caravan forum.

I simply disbelieve completely all messages to the effect that the poster has owned a succession of UK vans and has never encountered water ingress problems. I have enough experience of the subject to differentiate between facts and fanboyism.

I'm certain that Jennifer is an intelligent woman, and one who is perfectly capable of researching the matter on-line for herself.

Geist,

Like the truth or not, as i stated i have owned 11 caravans from new and have only ever had one which leaked. I do not deal in lies, what i have stated is the truth.

If you read my post you will discover i did not state i never had any leaking caravans, i did have one out of the eleven which leaked. Facts are facts, and i do not deal in lies or fantacy.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! You are covered under the Sales of Goods Act for a period of up to 6 years and should your caravan start leaking in the 5th year and you have had it serviced regularly by a recognisied oragnisation, the dealer will still be liable. Don't let any one tell you different. Trust me!

Then let's leave it there, shall we?

Except for me to ask you whether , with your obvious HUGE allotment of good luck, you'd be kind enough to supply me with 6 numbers for Saturday's lotto draw?

I'll cut you in ;)
