Hi everyone, hope you all well. I have just been told that the use of the extension mirrors that fasten on with the rubber straps are going to be made elegal. The new ones need to fastened on by the use of what looks like little clamps that fasten to the lip on the cassing of the wing mirror itself.

Personally, they look like they would cause damage to the plastic cassing if tightened to much. How would you know when they are tight enough to stay put and not wobble. I dont know if it is true or not but will have to wait and see. Has anyone heard about it or not.

See you all later.

Hi Raccoon

Haven,t heard about those mirrors being illegal, but to put your mind at rest I use the extension mirrors with the 2 clips on the top that clamp onto the top edge of the car wing mirrors and i dont have a problem with them, they are solid and up to now havent marked my car.. have used them both on a santa fe and now kia sorento. These also have a strap with them that fastens beneath the mirror making for being extra steady.Have used them for about the past 4 years now with no problems..

I know of quite a few caravaners whose car mirrors have been damaged by the clip on mirrors. Truth is I have yet to find a set of mirrors that offer significantly better rear views than my cars mirrors do. I only put them on to keep plod happy.

I only put them on to satisfy others. My car is quite wide and I can see the same through my car door mirrors as I do the extension ones. Carmen, does the clips have a little plate that goes under the top lip of the mirror that reaches between the two bolts to even out the presure. How do you know when they are tight enough.

HI! Raccoon have used extension mirrors on xtrail & now Kia Sportage with no problems the ones that have 2 screws that tighten onto the original wingmirrors with the rubber strap that goes around the front of the original mirror .you must be able to see along both sides of the caravan when towing .never had any dammage done by these mirrors you just screw the brackets until they are tight enough .Do not over tighten !!

Cheers

Willian you must have a very wide car, or a very narrow van, by law you must be able to see along the hole lenth of both sides of the van. but not for the mirrors to stickout to far (cant remember the exact measurments)

Hi Raccoon..

Sorry for the delay, the mirrors i use do have a small plate at the base of the clamp that fits in the lip area, you then screw them down on to the top of the wing mirror with two screws which have plastic feet. there is a back up strap that goes between the two clamps and fastens underneath the actual mirror.. Fasten the screws finger tight. Like i said before have never had a problem with them.. no marks etc....have not lost one yet...have used them for about 4 years now on two different cars..
