This might be an interest for someone.

When we bought our Abbey new in 2004 the extractor fan would only run for about 10 minutes before cutting out. The same happened with the replacement. After that so didn't bother about getting yet another replaced under warranty because there was a waiting list for them.
Now having bought a Bayley in 2009 the same thing was happening. Our mobile engineer replaced the faulty one under warranty and pointed out what could have been the problem.
On the new fan the circuit board is sealed so stopping any moisture cutting it out. It works a treat now.
Strange why it should take the manufacturer so long to find the problem though.

Never had any tripping problems with our roof fan. (2004)
The opening mechanism needed the "common fault" mode to it, in the first year, but thats all.

Hi LB I found out by a sheer fluke that my roof extract fan only works when the lighting system is switched on.
Half the lights work with the switch off that what confused me.

Hi your Lordship.
We have an Abbey 540SE Freestyle and that has an extractor vent/skylight ajacent to the cooker area. We took the fine mesh grill off after cooking the crimbo bird to clean it . (as you do). I was amazed to find the switch controls totally un-insulated from the atmosphere. But then thinking as a process technition, I would say the manufacturers go with the idea that 12V isn't enough to kill anyone and having aproduct that regularly fails is good for aftermarket OEM spares and great for the dealerships once the warrantee period is up.

As you and I know it isn't the volts that stop's the clock it's the amps that ****** up the ticker.

Fortunately or otherwise our fan still runs ok. Or is it down to me sealing the back of the switch area with good old silicon sealant. The stuff I use is ex chicken shedder sealant with a 30 year life expectancy. Hopefully Hereford council might of found a house for us by then. ( he say's tongue in cheek, patting the rabits foot with all hi fingers crossed).
