Fanmaster failure

I recently had a problem with my Carver Fanmaster, it worked fine on gas but there was no heat when switched to electric heating. Then co-incidentally I happened to read a letter in the Caravan Club mag (August page 29) about the thermal trip. Finding the trip was difficult but with the help of the website mentioned in the letter (go direct to --- http://www.stowford.co.uk/faultfinder/carver/fanmaster.asp) I reset the trip and all worked perfectly!

To get at the trip you need to have access to the rear left hand side of the heater. On the side of the terminal box you will find a flexible flap which when pushed in resets the trip. In my case I have been able to cut a whole in an internal partition which will allow much easier access in the future. A WORD OF WARNING - ISOLATE FROM THE MAINS BEFORE INVESTIGATING!

John, Seeing as you mention Fanmaster reset switches and the sometimes very difficult to get at location, I thought it worth mentioning an alternative.

You may not be aware that these manual reset switches if they go wrong or the heater was supplied without one, then a replacement is longer available from the successors to Carver, in fact due to the temperature they work at are not stocked by anyone!!

Due to this I have had stock made of a different design particularly with access or the lack of it in mind, this type known as 'self hold' does not need resetting manually so no need to get at it. However once tripped unlike a readily available automatic one, it will hold itself in this state until isolated from the mains supply. Once isolated it will then reset automatically after a few minutes so still providing the necessary warning that something is amiss.

The switch comes complete with the correct heat proof wiring and instructions to fit and only available from www.arcsystems.biz

Further on the subject of non availability of Carver spares, the Cascade 2 water heater uses a 'Fusible Plug' and this to is now only available as long as dealer stocks last!!
