No Diane ,I dont follow the tour. Had a long break from cycling after coming off and spending 5 hours in hospital with concussion (sp)with grazes to face ,arms and chest ;O( Have recently bought a mountain bike and use at a more sedate pace. Also trying to teach Bina to ride a bike as she has never had one before. It,s funny watching our 6 year old telling her how easy it is ;O)

My brothers and I were the first to cycle over the old Briton Ferry bridge and down Fabian Way to Swansea when it first opened in mid 1950s. As a teanager my friend and I cycled from Port Talbot to Haverfordwest (approx. 70 miles) - early 1960s. Arrived at my mate's aunty's house at Prendegast at almost 7:00pm. Stayed there over night and was too saddle sore to ride home next day. His aunty paid for us to put the bikes in the gaurd's van and come home by train. Never again - furthest was Porthcawl after that epic ride.

Little story for you.

I was knocked off my bike in Belgium by a lady in her car,(I wasn't hurt). As she got out to see if I was ok I made a comment about her driving.

She stopped and said "English"

"Yes" I replied

And she promptly got back in her car and drove off.

Brian you remind me of an accident I had whilst riding a bike. I was 13 years of age and cycling through Port Talbot before the town centre was altered and pedestrianised. It was a Saturday morning and I had my head down cycling into a head wind. A local bus stopped and I rode into the back of it. This was in the centre of town. A policeman on point duty came over and seeing I was not injured he gave me the biggest rollocking possible. I was trying to be brave and not cry as a crowd had gathered so I picked my bike up with buckled front wheel carried it round the corner out of sight and burst into tears and walked home carrying my bike down the back lanes so as not to be seen.

We stopped at a small taverna on Corfu for a drink and two rental jeeps when past at speed. About 20 minites later one returned a bit damaged and the driver very shocked told the owner that the other jeep had gone over a cliff so call the police.

The taverna owner looked at him and said " relax, have a drink , they will still be there in the morning"

Life in the slow lane ;O)

Brian can't compete with riding he length of Italy once let alone twice,in my younger days I did a lot of cycling and several times a week I would ride (at pace) around the outer circle bus route in brum (26mile)and remember well the bit like Campag gears, large flange QR hubs and hours spent sewing up the tubs after a puncture and sticky Dunlop tub glue and of course the clickty click of the pedal plates on your cycling shoes, happy days. Finally down Salford bike track on a Wednesday night to watch the racing with he likes of Hugh Porter.
