Emmo I can't remember if I've asked you this but have you any knowledge of what the CL is like at the Stables, Llanfrynach. The site belongs to Cambrian Cruisers I believe and is alongside the Mon & Brec.

I know it's not too far from you. Her Ladyship is now looking to fill in the Friday - Sunday trips away now we've booked the main ones.

I've just sent for the 18 DVDs from Armcher and I see The Stables is on there so will be able to check it out. Nice level walking along the canal from there :O) Providing it's not raining it will be ideal but as you know around there it can rain while the rest of these islands are dry.

Just down the road on the edge of Talybont village there used to be a little canal museum and tea shop. They also used to do horse-drawn barge trips from there. I wonder if its still there.

When I had my boat on the canal there used to be a hotel boat, two narrow boats tied alongside each other. Mostly used by Americans. Down at Goytre, where our boat was moored, there was also a restaurant boat.

I remember one summer going up to Llangattock, my favourite place to stay and fish. We were there 4 days and it never stopped raining once. I do miss the boat though, if I could afford it I'd have the boat and a caravan. Boating has a shorter season than caravanning though.

When Herself and I had a hire boat on the Mon & Brec in about 1990, we met the hotel boat at Brynich Lock. It was ginormous, but crewed only by the captain and three stunning girls, who crewed the boat, did the cooking cleaning and general hotel work. They were Australian, over here for a year, and loved the job! As far as I remember, there were eight bedrooms on the "butty" boat, and the living/ dining area was on the main boat. It was full of "blue rinse" ladies having the holiday of a lifetime!. I wonder what happened to it.

Also, as far as I know, the restaurant is still there.

If I recall, the company who ran the hotel boat were from Watford way. Perhaps they are plying the Grand Union now :O)
