Our 2006 Swift Oronsay had its first service in August 2007 during which after complaining to our dealer some of the hinges for the upper lockers were replaced as they are of the design with the triangular modular bar supporting plastic friction hinges. This worked for approximately 2 outings in our van and having just returned from 2 weeks away in the van it is now back to the point where the most used lockers ie above kitchen area must be held open otherwise they close suddenly and without warning . This caused my husband to get a bad gash on his forehead as the door closed just as he leaned forward. Is there a perm. fix for this obviously poor design (we already have 3 hinges on the larger locker doors fitted) as I see they were already being replaced with a metal domestic hinge by 2007 model year which i understand to be not a retro fit for our van . Are these items still under warranty as surely a door could be expected to be opened more than 20 approx . times without the retainers failing? Our van is once again due its service and I would hate to find out that we are now billed for something that was obviously not tested thoroughly before release as anyone with this type of Swift locker that we have spoken to all have the same problems.

Hi Theresa

Swift are on annual shutdown for the next 3 weeks but we are still monitoring the forums and will try and answer as much as possible.

We have upgraded our hinges and since you have yours changed last year we do now (I think) provide a better hinge for the upper lockers. They look the same as the existing ones but are better. You may want to contact your dealer to arrange for them to be changed, this is covered by your warranty.

Please also remember, in the change in weather the hinges may need manually tightening as they will contract and expand in hot weather.

I hope this helps you resolve this issue.

Best regards

Lynsey

I have an Ace Jubilee Viceroy (2005) also with the plastic hinges. They also slam shut without warning and I have had one occasion to get x-rays for fear of broken fingers!!

When I have told my dealers service department, all I get is "it's not covered by the warranty, but we will see if they can be adjusted". Unsurprisingly, they still slam shut..........

So are these hinges covered under warranty or not? The 'van is in for its 3rd service now so can I get them finally sorted??
