Today was the day !! Weather perfect and off we went to Crinan on the Loch Lomond Sea Plane. The trip was wonderful....flying amongst the mountains, seeing all the sea lochs.Really enjoyed ourselves......managed to keep it a secret from hubby until we arrived at Loch Lomond.Stunned would be a good word to use!!

Just wish we could do that more often.

Hubby was sitting next to the pilot, we could even put on headphones so that we could talk to him ....brilliant. Once we've sorted the photos out I'll pass judgement!!

Next week believe it or not we are going to Lochgilphead and hubby and his pal are going to cycle along the towpath at the Crinan Canal ......but of course he didn't know that I had already booked the flight to the same place.

I'm going to stay with the van and be cook and bottle washer )

FAO Maureen.

Hi Maureen,

Your trip sounded just great - and I'm glad you were able to keep it secret from your husband.

Molly wants to know what the food was like at Crinan. She's the gourmet while I am happy with a fish supper.

Our trip has been rescheduled for 23rd July, quite a long time away but, from your description, worth anticipating.

Glad you both enjoyed it.

Rob,

The Crinan is heavily into seafood whichisn't my favourite. If you go on to the Loch Lomond seaplanes web site:-

www.lochlomondseaplanes.com and go to lunch excursions then click on Crinan. At the side of the page you will see all the headings....click on Westward and click on sample menus and then you can read the selection. We were in the bar area where a table had been reserved. We had approx 2 hours,so plenty of time to eat and have a walk about.

Are you reasonably agile....because getting in & out can be interesting.I felt that mooring facilities could have been better at Crinan, but the pilot said that where we could tie up...all the boats go in !! We ended up taxiing up a ramp that led into a boat repair yard ,having to climb down and then walk through the yard( about 10 mins walk to the hotel )That was the only bit that I felt was unsatisfactory.

Flying level with the tops of the hills & mountains was just marvellous.

You might be lucky....they are taking delivery any day now of a new 9 seater plane ( the present one is only 4 + pilot. )

Any other questions....feel free.

Hi Maureen,

Thank you for the info re Crinan Hotel. Neither of us cares much for sea food but there is enough variety to make sure we won't starve - even if there are no fish and chips!

Don't fancy the ten minute walk to the hotel as I get out of puff from pulmonary fibrosis due to breathing in too much radio active dust when driving an open Jeep fairly regularly through Hiroshima within a year of the bomb being dropped. (has put an end to our hill-walking in the past few years).

Rob,

Why don't you phone the girl at Loch Lomond Seaplanes and explain your difficulties and that you have been told that access from the ship repair yard is going to be tricky for you.If they are aware ,then they might be able to improve on the way in.Just a thought. The other thing which springs to mind is that there is a coffee shop which is also owned by the hotel which sells snacks & homemade baking etc.I suppose it might be possible to say that you don't want a table booking and that you will use the coffee shop instead.

Hi again Maureen,

When my kids booked this flight they got lunch included and I'd hate to do Molly out of her looked forward to lunch. I'll just amble along at my own pace and hope I get to the table before the dessert is being served!

Rob,

If you read the information you will note that the table is booked for you,but you pay for lunch....it is not included in the price.Would hate you to have a nasty shock.
