Hello my fellow motorists. If this has been posted before, forgive me. I wanted to bring your attention to a petition on the Government's website, where you can sign up to show Mr Darling and Mr Brown that you are not happy with the excrutiatingly high levels of tax levied on our fuel. If we are ever to make No.10 listen to us, we need to unite, and to act. Apathy is not an option. If you do nothing, please do not complain about how much more it's costing you to fill up each time you visit the pumps.

Visit the link, sign the petition, click the link on the return email and join me and many others in making our voices heard.

The link is http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Lowerduty30/

Please act quickly, we only have until the 17th June! Tell everyone about the petition, sign it and get others to sign it. Don't put it off. If you don't make your voice heard, these prices will be here to stay.

Dave

Obviously I meant Fed up, not Feed Up with fuel prices! Either way, action needs to be taken. How about joining the Hauliers next time they drive down to London with our caravans and motorhomes?

Done it, but i dont think for one second that that prick will take any notice of it, this has been tried many times before.

But as you say, if you do nothing about it you have no right to complain about it.

I COMPLETLY AGREE WITH DEVONSHIRE DAVE. I THINK ALL CARAVANERS SHOULD JOIN THE PROTEST. IF LIKE ME WE SPEND OUR HOILYDAYS IN THE UK THE VAN IS UK MADE. MAY BE THEY WOULD LIKE US TO GO ABROAD FOR OUR BREAKS, MAY BE THE WORKING CLASSES SHOULD KNOW OUR PLACES.

By forcing us off the roads and holidaying abroad they will get greater revenue from airport tax and aviation fuel tax, etc. so they would be better off by us flying abroad for holidays. We can also sell the caravan manufacturing plant to the Indians, Russians or who ever wants it - another south Wales steel plant has today been sold to Russian owners for

I agree that stronger measures need to be taken. The French fishing fleet blockade the ports in protest. Why cant the caravanners do the same. Blockade the major cities in the country. After all we will at least be comfy in our vans while the roads are jammed. The M25 would be a good start although thats usually jammed in any case.

Anybody else up for this ?

Swift2008,

There is a very similar thread running on a VW Touareg Owners Club site that I am a member of and a London member is suggesting something similar and testing interest in physical protests.

The silence was deafening !

It seems as if far too many people are happy to put up and shut up, thus the Government and Oil Companies keep stealing from us, safe in the knowledge that only rarely do we raise our voices in protest.

hi all

are fuel prices too high of course they are but why are we all so pesimistic about it. fuel prices have allways been too high thanks to those little arab chappies.

anyone old enough will remeber the price hike in the 70s, 80s, 90s ect, crude oil is sold in barrels (about 50 gals per barrel)

and its price is in us dollars so at 140 dollars a barrel thats about $3 a gallon as it comes out of the ground (

Congatulations Devonshire Dave on doing you bit for the price of fuel.

Sorry, but I missed the date of signing the petition. But I have signed other petitions recently, regarding the same issue.

It's a very good thing that people like you, are drawing attention this.

My major problem is, that although the Govenment is harping on about global warming and climate change. Their only answer is to raise taxes, which is at the core of this problem. They offer no real incentives for alternatives. They are fixated simply by taxes.

Most of us accept, that natural oil will become scarcer. There are still ways which we can adapt and survive, there are still options open. They may not be as convenient as what we have now,but they still exist.

The important issue to raise here,is the attitude of the government and politicians in general. To politicians,it is of the utmost concern who holds power. This can have a dramatic positive/negative effect on their personal fortunes. It is us the public who hold control over that balance of power. We should excecise that power accordingly.

I believe that the Labour government have a major problem.Their high tax, high spend policies are failing, because they think that throwing big bucks at everything sorts a problem out. No,it just encourages major fiddles and ineptitude. We are paying for this in the ways such as high fuel tax. This money isn't being returned into the system,it's being wasted!Frittered away.

My advice to anyone who is concerned about being priced off the road is this.

1) Don't expect anyone else to fight your battles for you.

2) If you have a concern, make sure your MP knows about it - NOW!

Make sure they understand your grievance in no uncertain terms!

3) If you're not happy with the response they give you,see point 4

4) Tell them you aren't going to vote for them at the next election and MEAN IT! Vote elsehere.

5) Tell all your friends to exactly the same. And make sure they do!

6) If your friends are too lazy to put pen to paper.Tell them to 'put up or shut up'.

7) Don't go 'bitching' to your caravan club/asscociation,they can only act with their members consent and most of those would decide to do nothing!

These forums are a great place to vent your frustration, but that's where it ends. We have to tackle the problem 'head on' that means getting to poliicians - Senior Ministers to be precise. That's not easy, these are the most ignorant, blinkered, people you could imagine. Their prime concern being power and personal wealth.

We are possibly two years away from an election, there are a lot of politician's future's at stake. We live in a supposedly democratic society. Let's test that democratic process.

But please do NOT expect someone else to fight your fight. If you want change, then you MUST be prepared to act on your own behalf.

Lastly. I do not argue for the right to pollute the planet.I have no argument with trying to conserve natural rescources. If we can conciuosly reduce natural waste, that's fine. This makes good sense for us the planet and is an opportunity for new business.

Let's not confuse all this, with a misguided attemempt by socialist politicians to create a comunist state!

The high cost of road fuel hurts me like everyone but why is no-one campaigning for aviation fuel to be taxed at the same level as road fuel.

We holiday in the UK with our caravan, we pay high fuel taxes and contribute to local economys.

Those that fly out on cheap flights pay vitually nothing in tax, take money out of the UK economy and create more carbon emissions than we do.

It's about time the environmental/taxation burden was shared out more evenly - UK road users shouldn't be the only target for politicians.
