Hi everyone,

I want to book a ferry crossing for next years' school summer holiday. I don't mind when I go, so long as its in the school break and is 2 weeks and is the CHEAPEST. We live near Winchester, so I would preferably like to use Portsmouth or Poole. What I would like is some sort of site that does all the hard work for me. Does anyone have any success in gettting the cheapest crossings and if so how did they do it?

When you say "next year" do you mean 2010, because if so you may find it quite difficult. Brittany schedules are currently not available beyond november 09 let alone 2010, and i guess many other are the same.

The Caravan Club site is pretty good "one stop shop" for all routes, but you can always try the individual operators. They still have some discounts but not quite as many in previous years, particularly as brittany now have a near monopoly on the western crossings. (I live on the Wilts/somerset border, so have the same problem)

It depends where you want to go. If western France, then sthe savings going Dover Calais are likely to be offset by the extra miles not to mention time and the trip from you to Dover can be pretty miserable around the M25. the A27 along the south coast is OK to Brighton but then only 2 lane.

There are other sites which advertise cheap ferry tickets - I've tried some but them don't seem very caravan friendly.

If you look at the brittany Ferries website you can see the timetables, start a book process and you will be able to see which times of day are most expensive. Then select the other, and go to the CC site and put in the appropriate times.

I believe you also get a better deal if you take Camping cheques and/or book sites at the same time, but this has never suited my travel pattern - perhaps others will comment, please.

Who offers the best deals differs from year to year. We always ring around and try Caravan Club, Camping Cheques and others. This year we found the best deal was Condor Ferries via Camping cheques which went out on a Sunday - May thru September - Caravans go free. The approximate cost was

I thought I read somewhere that people got the best prices by booking early, and that you could start booking Summer Ferry crossing in September of the previous year?
