Hi thinking of buying a caravanstore zip

1. to act as a sunshade for weekends away with easy storage.

2. with the sides and front panel attached to use as main awning.

But always questions, due to them being stored perminantly on the side of the van do they slide on the awning rail whilst in transit or knock against the sides if so do you need to put any padding in place.

More importantly if i use as a main awning can anyone say how stable they are in winds as they only seem to have quiet thin aluminium legs.

Any advice would be great.

we have the Zip 3.6 metre size which we have used for about 3 months so far since April last year.

we find it easy to erect and pretty sturdy in use once all the sides are in place, as long as it is well pegged down.

we have not had any problems with it shifting in the rail, there are small metal bits supplied to insert in the awning rail to keep it in place. nor have we had any problems with it bouncing or swinging while on the road.

we did find that in strong wind the bits that the side arms locate into on the bag, against the van, moved slightly, so we now have a scratch there. we intend to pad the back of the bag where these bits are as they are a bit hard.

you will understand what I mean if you get one!

do use all the pegging points. we have made plates to slip over the feet on the legs which take 4 pegs in each, we also use guylines on the legs (these are supplied), and on the tabs below the windows we attach bungees and peg down, this allows a bit of give. we do also have a storm strap, but this is not so easy to use, and could bend the side arms.

the entrance door can be put at whichever end you require, which is handy.

if using only as a canopy, roll it up if it is windy.

I've had a caravanstore for some years and find it excellent. However, if it is rolled up in the bag and the wind is strong, the bag can lift up and then drop against the side of the van with a considerable thump - bad for sleeping. Fasten a pad of foam rubber say about as big as a paperback book under the bag about half way along the length. I use double sided sticky tape onto the side of the van.

Suggest you also get an awning tie down strap.
