Does anybody have one of these and what are you views on them. I am thinking of trading in my full size awning which we only use once a year and our porch awning needs replacing so i thought i would try one of these.( i know they are expensive) I am just trying to get some honest views before making my mind up. thanks martin
 
Hi

I have a 4.4 metre one and have used it for 2 years in all sorts of weather. I think they are great and so versatile. I started off with a full awning and porch awning but the caravanstore has replaced both of these. If weather is good we just put the roof out with one or two sides, and for worse weather we put the front on. It is easy to erect and put away. My wife is only 5ft but we manage it very well. I would never use a conventional awning again. Hope this helps.
 
Our journey took us from full to large porch to even larger but lighter sunncamp 390, there are people in both camps for the fiamma and took the route we did after listening to both sides. We are happy with our choice
 
Thanks for the comments, we have taken our full size awning to the dealers for them to give us a trade in price against the 4.4metre one. we will wait to see how much one will cost us!!!
 
We have the Zip and find it very hard to roll up alone

If 2 people do it its easier

Our friends got rid of theirs because they couldn't manage it

There is a new Fiamma non zip with sides that clamp on that looks really good

The condensation is very marked with the plastic type of awning

We use the Zip as a shed on the offside of the caravan and its been replaced by the Omnistor 2000 on the door side

This bolts onto the van side and retracts like a roller blind under spring pressure
 
John l see you have the Ace award we have Ace Award Firestar 08, how does attaching the omnistor effect the warranty o attaching it to the awning rail, we were led to believe only awnings would not evoke the warranty other types that attached while travelling would.

l must admit l like the idea but am frightened it would invalidate my warranty.

I haven't worried about the warranty as the 2 end brackets cover an area of about 5in X 5in and there are 2 10mm bolts through each

The centre bracket is narrower with one bolt

If tape mastic is used it seals very well and so there will be no need to claim on warranty

I have had the Omnistor 2000 on 2 vans and removed it from the Ace last week prior to changing the van

On both vans there has been no sign of water ingress

The dealer is going to fill the 5 small holes and spray over as part of the trade in good will at no cost as they did last time

The holes could be covered with reflectors etc as an alternative

My dealer have fitted the wind out awning as well

I contacted Bailey a few years ago and they preferred the bolt on type as they weren't happy with the Carvanstor awning rail type pulling on the awning rail

I haven't had any probelms when using the awning rail type myself

The mastic was really hard to unstick!!

The wind out was not fitted to my van as well!!
 
I've lost count of the number of Caravanstore stylee awnings that we've seen flapping around on the side of caravans.

They can't be very aero friendly when towing or very kind to the caravan.

Omnistor is a sun shade and expensive to replace legs and parts that get damaged when they fly. I'd never leave an Omnistor or Fiamma roller style awning out at night or when going out for the day. Friends were agents and sold Omnistor's as well as Fiamma and made most of their profit from selling spares for them as so many got damaged in the wind!

17.5 kg is not too excessive but still eats into the van payload. I have a motormover fitted and therefore HD battery so can also add another 50-60 kg for that lot.

I like the idea but at the moment will keep the existing sunshade inside the boot of the car, and fill the van with wine..........?
