Hi both,we have a caravanstore just over 3 metres,we have toured France Germany and as far north as Scotland with out any problem whatsoever, just make sure the little bullets that keep it in the channel are secure they can come loose (we lost 1 (bullet that is)but they are easy to get at most caravan shops, good luck.

I leave mine on the van all the time (5 years now). Suggest you add a block of foam rubber say about 6" x 4" x2" (dimensions not critical) to the side of the caravan immediately under the centre of the bag - it won't show. Use double sided stickies.

This will prevent the awning hittng the sides of the van as and when the wind gets under it - both while towing and in very strong winds when not - the "thump" without this can be quite alarming.

John Jen....Agreed I leave my Fiamma awning on all the time and only remove it if we are going to use our full awning. Then it usually goes on the offside of the van and on occasions it can be used if the pitch is big enough.

A good idea buy a couple of spare awning channel locking fittings (bullets) because they do have a habit of working loose at the most inconvienient time.

Hi,

Totally agree with Ray S, We spent a sleepless night a few weeks ago when the wind got up.Obviously put the caravanstore away however the wind was lifting the bag and was banging against the awning light.

Next morning I put 3 short strips of gaffer tape from the bag to the side of van, problem solved.

I am going to do as Ray suggests and put a block of foam rubber either side of the awning light to solve the problem.

We do the same as Beemermal and remove the caravanstore when wanting to use the full awning and fit it on the other side (if there is room for using it).

Regards

Hi Nidge

I have ordered a 4.4 metre Fiamma Zip with sides and front and I intend to use it as a normal awning but note that you say that in windy weather you retracted yours. Does this mean that they are not to be used in windy weather? You have got mew worried.

Anyone care to comment please?

Are you saying that the Fiamma is not to be used in windy weather? You have got me worried not because I am waiting to receive a 4.4 metre Zip and intend to use it as an ordinary awning.

Anyone care to put my mind at rest PLEASE

Brum....The Fiamma Caravanstore awning as a canopy only is susceptable to damage in high winds or very heavy rain. You will need to use the additional rafter/s to help support the roof. (Number of rafters depends on the length)

It is more stable if fitted with sides and a front providing it is properly pegged down and you still need to use the rafters. They are very popular on the continent. Whether it is as good as a full awning, i'm not sure?

I only use mine as a sun/shower canopy and when bad weather is forecast, particularly if it is very windy, I roll it up.

Hope this helps. Mal

Reading the later postings, perhaps i should add I use rafters at each end of the 3.5m caravanstore and tie them to the side arms with velcro straps. This plus an awning tiedown has proved fine if very srtong winds. The rafters will thne hold the side curtains if you ever bother with them.

When I say rafters, I don't use the Fiamma version as I find them very difficult to tension and lock all at the same time, not to mention expensive.

Brum...sounds a bit suspect, seems a long time to wait for delivery. Did you pay with a credit card, if so you may have some redress through them if you can't get hold of the supplier or the goods. Also, if you bought it from a caravan show the organisers of the show may be able to help in tracing the seller.

Yes that sounds pretty dodgy. I just bought a Caravanstore (not Zip) from Jacksons (Old Arley) and they say they get new deliveries of them every week, they certainly had none on the Saturday, and had several on Wednesday, as they said they would.

(Oh and by far the cheapest I've seen 3.6m for _0"5139)

Also, does anyone know what the black loops of strapping are for, they are attached to the inside of the back at the same place as the velcro straps, but I can't figure out what they are for.

George. When tensioning the poles ensure they go through the loops. The reason is that if you get a severe gust of wind which temporarily takes the pressure of the pole the pole will only drop into the loop and not fall and potentially mark the Van.

HI Brum.

Only just picked up on your message. I have Fiamma caravanstore which is a canopy only and consequently does not have the sides or front to give extra stability, hence why I roll it up in very windy conditions. The Zip I believe can be used as a full awning so the same problem should not occur. Look likes Ray S and Beemermal have answered with sound advice to your query's.

All the best

Nidge
