I am considering the purchase of a Fiamma for my Compass 482(Eldis 482) but am concerned about its suitabilty for this model caravan The roof profil;e is not truly flat having a slight dip tpowards the front. Additionally the awning light is fitted just below the awning ccannel and will not alow the loaded support bag to lie flat against the caravan side. Does anyone have experiance of this situation?

I have used the 2.8m Fiamma Caravanstore for several years on a few vans

On some of them I have unscrewed the awning light and lowered it as far as possible while still covering the old screw holes and this has made the awning lie better against the van side

Its also better to slide the canopy as far back/forward depending on door in front/behind the wheel so as to allow the canopy to lie flat agains the van side while travelling

The next pic shows the Fiamma on the offside in travelling position

On site it is fitted at the very end of the side at the rear

Hi John

Many thanks for your swift and detailed reply. You have answered all my queries, I had not considered fixing the unit to the offside for travelling, that solves the problem of the awning light.

Regards Mac

Hi

I have a Fiamma Caravanstore Zip.

This is a good tip - buy two car cleaning sponges and leave them in the plastic bags. Put them in the Caravanstore bag behind the roll out canopy when travelling this will stop it denting the side of your caravan and will probably raise it clear of the awning light. It does on my Bailey Senator.

I haven't fixed it to the offside just for travelling

I use it with sides as "THE SHED" when on long holidays

I showed the pic to show how it can be slid along the awning rail for travelling

Some Continental vans do not have awning rails on the off side either e.g. my Burstner.

Like the idea of sponges inside the bag to prevent banging about, I have been using a flat block of foam rubber fastened to the side of the van with double sided tape but it does not look too wonderful.

Hi Ray

The sponges work really well, but make sure you leave the plastic bags on or they just soak up water and don't work. One at each end inside the bag works fine.

Just a thought, but before we sold up our Wyoming was just under the max legal width of 2.3 metres (2.28m).

For those with similar width vans, would the fitting of this type of awning whilst travelling make the van overwide, especially if one is fitted to each side, or would they have to be removed for travelling ??

That concerned me but so far nobody has questionned it

The awning lights, side marker lights and gas flue etc do stick out at a lower level but not quite as far
