We need to know how heavy your caravan is and what car you drive Andy. The caravan weight plate will either be near to the door or on the A frame

Please could you give us some more info:
What is the Mass in Service written on your car's V5c certificate (G)?
What is the max braked towing weight written on your car's V5c certificate (O.1)?
What is the MTPLM written on the weight plate on your caravan (possibly under the entry door)?

The Fiat Marea has a max tow weight of 1300 kg..... the minstral it appears comes only as a 2 berth and should weight under 1000 kg...
but as stated plese check its plates. On the face of it you shouldnt have any problems with this match....

Oops, normally I'd have seen it but I clicked onto this thread from the moderators cms panel earlier when I'd been busily booting spammers off and hadn't noticed

hi peoples i cannot check the vin plate yet as its being brought to me as i need to source a towbar for my marea jtd weekender but as for my licence i've been driving since 1982 and i'm still on my paper licence i'm sure i'm ok to tow cos i can drive a truck up to 3 tonnes i seem to remember thanks again for your help i'll get back to you when the van gets here.andy

to Woodlands Camper
i said it would be ok because if you google then the max capacity is 1400kg. the kerb weight is 1385kg.
if you stick to the old 85percent recomendation then your ok. if my maths is ok then 1177 is 85percent.

. The original poster (OP) Andy has stated that he has the car and therefore he must hold the registration certificate for it (V5C), which give mass in service and max braked towing limit. He has not replied saying what these values are, but has accepted what somebody has told him from a different source. The values on the certificate are what matter in law and not what somebody has found on the internet. They figures may correlate OK, but the proof of the pudding is written down on the V5C.

excuse me "O" King, for interjecting but not all V5C's have such information, mine does not and it's a 2004, as far as I am aware the Marea is not a current model and is probably about 8 to12 years old, one could of course work out the typical allowances using the vin plate, from memory I believe the U/L weight was about 1350kg and the GTW about 2900kg so a van of 1090kg should be fine,

That info has only been included on the V5 recently. On the Corolla's V5 no mention of any weights.

I stand corrected. My car is 2007 and has them, so looks like the weights were introduced on V5Cs between 2004 and 2007.

i do agree that it may be a little foolhardy to accept the word of a forum member as gospel and would advise that OP should recheck with the maker/dealer of car to make sure but im comfortable with the weights i stated. i pull about the same size van with 180hp and dont notice its even there.
