Hi everyone, I am knew to this site and was wondering if you could give me some advice.

In July I are intending to drive up to Fort William and then from Fort William to Kinloch Rannoch and I was wondering if you could offer the best route for towing a caravan. From reading post I know I should avoid up the side of Loch Lommond. I had thought about going via Perth then follow the signs for Stirling, Crianlarich, Inverness then Dalwhinnie, Spean Bridge, Fort William. Does that sound an ok route or am I bettr going via Stirling, Callendar, Crianlarich. As for the journey from Fort William to Kinloch Rannoch I have no idea.

Also if anyone has stayed in Fort William can they give me any advice on campsites?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sandra

we're in Dunfermline - looks like you may have some rain heading your way... (",)

I've towed back from Fort William to Fife once, went down to Ballachuilish then down through Glencoe, via Crainlarich then Crieff (I think!) which then brings you into Dunfermline via Knockhill - lots of hills but probably the most direct route.

unfortunately I don't think there is any "easy" route to Fort William. not sure about campsites as we stayed at Loch Ness.

kind regards, Mark (",)

Hi Sandra,

I would agree with Mark. We just came back from Bunree ( Fort William ) at the weekend there, after having spent a few days at Maragowan ( Killin ).

We're from Dundee and went to Perth, onto the A85 towards Crieff, Comrie, St Fillans etc, up to Crainlarich, Tyndrum and through Glencoe. Absolutely brilliant drive and scenery, totally loved it.

As Mark says it can be a bit hilly, but nothing to worry about. It can also be a bit twisty and windy in places, but not too narrow to cause any problems. In other places it's wide and fairly straight.

You don't say which site you're visiting in Fort William but I can recommed either the Glen nevis one or Bunree ( Caravan Club ), both excellent, with Bunree edging it due to it's lochsdie position and facilites. Glen Nevis also has the stunning scenery of the Ben and good facilities, also it's closer to Fort William.

Apologies if you already knew this.

Have a good one,

Alex.

Hi Sandra.

I would agree the the others regarding taking the route of the A85 - crieff/Crainlarich to Tyndrum, then onto the A82 through Glencoe. This is a spectacular route. I would avoid the A9 to Dalwhinnie then to Spean Bridge route, although a nice drive not the best option when towing (it is also longer)

We go to the Invercoe Site at Glencoe and use the route up through Glencoe (A82)when travelling from Arbroath, and have never had any problems with the hills etc.

When in this area I would recommend the site at Glencoe (Invercoe Highland Holidays) a lovely site, on the edge of Loch Leven. Hope this helps

Cheers
