I wish you and Other Clive would stop bickering at each other.
I like Tony's photos.
I just thought my post #31 was just a non contentious piece of advice. Shows how wrong you can be. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

But in fact Buckman response was light hearted as per my response to him. You are reading too much into the posts.

Back in those days yellow was considered the safest colour to have. These days you wouldnโ€™t need your phone to show you where you parked it.
In a previous job we had a fleet manager, who read that, and ordered all of our Mk2 Escorts in yellow or orange, justifying his decision on safety grounds, first week one was written off while turning right at a junction. other driver involved said' I didn't see you as the sun wa shining off your car'

As a matter of interest is that a Fiat or a Daf?
It is a Polski Fiat 126 seen in Krakow as one of the many old cars that were competitors in the rally. Some were pre war models. Competitors came from Poland, other European countries including UK. We were lucky as we had arrived in Krakow from Prague not knowing the rally was taking place, so it made our day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Oops wrong car picture. Hutchโ€™s car is a Premier Padminiโ€ฆ..Indian

At the risk of "teaching grandma to suck eggs" - if it's an automatic, it'll be an old design without torque converter lock-up which will generate a lot of heat in slow, heavy traffic due to the constant churning by the torque converter - often dissipated only by a cooling tube running in hot coolant in the bottom tank of the radiator.

One answer is to fit a separate transmission cooler but it's also important to change the automatic transmission fluid more frequently if towing - checking the fluid colour is a good way to check its condition - translucent red = fresh, dull red = normal, brown = needs changing, black = too late!

Edit - a failing head gasket won't help!
