Hi

Heres one that i bet will go 50 /50

On a site the other week there was a group of vans that were obviously celebrating something. About 10 o'clock they went over into the recreational field and let of some fireworks. They appeared to do it safely and I personally enjoyed them but there was a buzz in the shower block the next morning some opposed some not bothered.

I tend to be a bit 'live and let live' but I wondered how do you all stand on this one and out of interest how do CC and other sites stand.

Wouldn't personally bother me - but possible a notice to inform posted nearby would be courteous to people with animals and/or children.

Personally I would have sat down with a beer and enjoyed the show.

Am I correct in thinking that all public displays now have to be licensed?

We do have the occaisional problem where we live (out in the sticks) with fireworks causing havock with livestock so appreciate the potential problems.

I think the 80/20 rule probably applies again - 80% will say great! lets enjoy it and 20% will be varying degrees of Mr Angry who will complain/write to their MP.

I would go out and watch them and it wouldn't worry me personally.

But as already mentioned you have to respect other caravaners particularly with pets and children. Our dog used to have panic attacks on firework night, running around the house with her heart pounding. I know that this is also the case with many other dogs. Also many caravaners have young children and babies. It can be stressful enough getting a baby off to sleep, without them then being woken up by fireworks, probably frightened.

So really, yes it's nice for the adults and older children, but for others it can be a total nightmare and spoil their holiday. You really have to think of others who are sharing the site with you.

I would think it should work both ways but I have to be careful as I have a biased view in the topic by way of a vested interest.

Klarky, I agree that with consideration to all caravanners this type of activity would be acceptable if it is organised properly and everone knows about it beforehand. Unfortunately I have often been on sights where certain people do what they like late into the night, not just once but every night and these types do not consider anybody else but themselves and their own enjoyment.

yes i understand that, and i must agree with you to a certain extent.i myself am guilty of extending the night, although not as rowdy as some would be.lets face it,i,and probably the majority go away to unwind, unfortunately some unwind more than others.

Some of us also go away for a bit of peace and quiet. All activities be it fireworks, socialising etc. should be done taking into consideration the time of night, proximity of neighbours etc. and perhaps 11.o'clock would be a reasonable time to assess such things, so that EVERYBODY can enjoy their breaks.

agree with you chris, the time stated in martyns post was 10 pm which i think is a fairly reasonable time.personally if i was to have a display of this kind i would have sought the site warden or whoever was responsible, for their authority on this display

Hi Martyn - I am one of those -50 who feel that we should consider all our neighbours when camping or otherwise. I feel for both domestic or wild life who feel threatened by unusual sounds. Keep the noise down is the advice of most site owners so why should fireworks be an exception?

I too am one of the 50. We caravan as a family group and there can be as many as 6 caravans and upto 47 folks if everyone get's together.

We will party into the small hours of the night, but you don't hear us, because we have our own rules, and the chatter is kept to a minimum after 11pm.

Some of us get up early (6am for me) others stay in late (10am for her in doors). But the most important thing is we're all respectfull of each others style of holiday.

I believe in live and let live, but there are a few who think they have the right to go bannanas and have a "couldn't give a toss" attitude.

We're lucky there are six of us who can look after ourselves and be quite persuasive if required but life should be a beach for all.

Perhaps the banana bunch should rumble in the jungle.
