I have sen a nice gas heater for our Esterel, as its not fitted with a heater.

But the heater in question is a side venting model, this is OK, but do to the layout of the Esterel the only place I can fit the heater would mean that the vent or flue would be exhausting in to the awning.

I do have concerns about this and wonder what others think. Don't fancy the idea of fumes being exhausted into the awning, but ............................

Thanks.

Ian.

Hello GP.

This is not a DIY job.

There are specific regulations concerning the size and type of gas appliance that can be allowed to vent into an awning area. The majority of space heaters are not allowed to do it.

The fitting, servicing, repairer or removal gas appliances and pipework is governed by the Gas Safety Regulations. I suggest you refer the matter to a a competent fitter who will check what can be fitted safely to your caravan.

Hi Guys,

As I thought not a good idea and thanks for all the useful tips. Will see if I can get a floor venting heater or perhaps one of those Propex heaters seems good.

Regards,

Ian.

Ian, the Propex heaters are good, but noisy in use, compared to the Truma or Carver ranges of heaters.

As Carver is no longer made, you would have to source one second hand and the smaller one, the 1800 series is floor vented.

Most however are roof vented now, so thought must be given to where the flue will run, as well as where the floor opening would have to be made for the intake air.

The Carver heaters were only Truma heaters built under licence. Carvers were mostly underfloor flued but they and the Truma design could be specified with underfloor, sidewall or roof flue.

Hello Roger,

My information is at variance to your posting concerning the flues on Carver /Truma caravan convector heater products.

The flue arrangements are limited according to the heat input rates for the products.

Floor flued heaters are limited a maximum of 1.64kW input. (e.g. SB1250 / 1800 models)

A very few (hens teeth numbers) Truma (SD2000, SD2002 & SD2200)side wall products were sold

and anything over 2kW was only available with a roof flue.

Truma and Carver along with some other manufactures did produce some specialist heaters which use fan assisted combustion. These were never fitted as standard to touring caravans but more frequently to motor homes, emergency vehicles or lorry cabs. Some were used as boat heaters with specially modified flue and air intake terminals.
