Hi All,

I have decided to fit my own towbar to my 2002 peugeot 406 estate.

My Question is where can I get the parts from?

What manufacture do you all sugest?

How much should I expect to pay for the parts?

Has anyone fitted to this car? anything to watch?

Many Thanks,

Ian

There are loads of suppliers on line, as all bars have to meet the same standard, and I presume you are fitting your own for reasons of cost, you may as well pick the cheapest.

I had mine fitted by EECO (twixt Bradford and Halifax) as the difference in cost was so little it really wasn`t worth getting a socket set out. At this time of year towbar fitters will be quiet, why not see how good a deal you can get by bartering them down, you may be surprised.

Yes, that is a lot of money!

For comparison, EECO fitted one of their own bars with twin electrics, split charge relay, a stainless bump-plate and chrome flipper on my Passat estate for

Hi,

Thanks for all your postings, I have noticed with the witter Pg27 model for my car it has a max tow capacity of 1200kg, but my car has a max tow capacity of 1500kg.????????????

With my van weighing close to 1500kg this does worry me. I have also benn told that I might get the new Al-ko ball with my new van is this true.??

Ian.

Ian,

When I picked my caravan up from new, the dealer fitted the extended neck towball FOC, I still have the original towball in case I change the van to one which has a different towhitch fitted.

As for the towing limit stated on the towbar, on mine all the limiting specifications are the same as stated in my Renault handbook, so you may have to make some enquiries to be on the safe side,

best regards, Martin

Strangely enough I had to contact Witter yesterday about the noseweight value quoted on their website for the new XTrail towbar

They rang me back and confirmed that the value for the diesel manual is 100kg and not as on the website 75kg

They thanked me for calling and said that the information they had been given had changed

So it is always worth giving them a ring as they are most helpful

Don't know where you live... mine fitted by CDF Towbars that are Coventry based but will fit on site between within about a 40 mile radius from Birmingham. Tel 01676 540582 for advice. I think it was about 160 for single elctrics fitted in about an hour on my works carpar on a new Focus hatch. You will find detailed fitting instrcutions on the Witter website. As nboted it may be the electrics rather than the mechanics that present the problem.
