Has anyone worked out the best way to fix a fitted sheet on a cut-away fixed bed ? We have a protector on top of the mattress then a memory foam topper with a cover and stretch the fitted sheet over the lot. We usually collapse in fits of laughter and it's a wonder one of us hasn't wrenched our back. Anyone any tips on a simple method to tuck the elasticated around the bottom of the mattress?

You could try the trick of not using sheets. We use 2 duvets, 1 winter and 1 summer weight and swop them from top to bottom as required. In the very hot summer then we drop the duvet and just use the top cover. Saves any trying to tuck into corners etc.

The new mattresses have no give at all so after breaking all my fingernails the topper seemed to be the option for us. The sheet tucks around the topper instead and it's so much easier.

We have a mattress protector and we do it by sliding the mattress off the bed and standing it sideways on the floor at the side of the bed. We pull the elasticated bottom of the sheet over the 'top' side of the mattress which goes nearest to the window. We then slide the mattress back onto the bed base, smooth everything out and finally stretch the elasticated bottom of the sheet over the end of the mattress nearest to us.
If this seems a bit involved it's because it is!
For the first few times this palaver was a struggle but with both of us working like navvies we have got into a routine.
We always do this first before anything else while the kettle is boiling so that we can collapse with a cup of tea, cream crackered but with a job well done lol.

what we do or should i say i as my husband does,nt do the bed as the mattress folds in the middle i bring it up whilst i am kneeling on the other side then put the fitted sheet over it drop it down and then just do the other side i know they are`nt that easy to do but it is the best way i have found but i must admit after i have doen it i sigh of relief
Wow... I don't know how you manage to slide the mattress off, we tried and nearly demolished the shelves above the bed! It's certainly not a job I'd want to be tackling too many times lol.

Hi Jane,
our mattress doesn't fold in half, it's one of the deep sprung ones like you would have at home and once you kneel on it you have no chance of lifting the corners. It wouldn't be so difficult if they had left a little gap between the mattress and the walls to even get your fingers down the side!

I have the same problem but my way of tackling it is to tuck it in as best I can then lift up the matress and sit underneath it then pull sheet through

we made a fitted cover for the topper from a single duvet with the corner cut off and a zip sewn a bit amateurishly round the bottom of it.Its easy to get on and also to wash and doesnt need making each morning just a quick straighten up.Cost about
