flat battery

Put it on a slow charge so that you don't boil the battery fluid,make sure it is topped up ,but not overfill,if after charging it looses it's charge off load then a new one is the only answer.
 
David, thanks for your prompt reply. the charger i have wont even attempt to charge it as it has a safety feture to stop charging if under 7 amps !! im just wondering if its goosed and we go away in the morning.
 
It is worthwhile noting that a lead acid battery can freeze in sub zero temperatures if it not kept in a state of charge.

The electrolyte can turn to a solid and crack the battery casing as it expands.

This will destroy the battery and also release the acid when it thaws.
