Flat battery

Last time out arrived at store to find battery at 6volts!!!! First time in 7 years of caravanning but still unsure of cause. Battery is 1 year old Elecsol and has recharged OK albeit slowly. We have a Sony radio dvd player wired in and I managed to push the whole thing in too far into the housing. Reading the manual to see how to get it back I noticed that instructions say make sure you switch off memory power or flat battery will result. Always do the same with the radio so can't see what might have been different this last time. Apparently there is a fire that stays live even with the master switch off. Switching this off means holding the off switch down. Anyone else met this one?

Not had this issue personally (we keep our van at home), but these days most electronic stuff doesn't have a true "switched off" function as it constantly draws power (albeit small amounts) so the only way to overcome this would be to disconnect the battery completely (unless you have a way of isolating the battery some other way)

We had a Sony Car Radio/CD player in our last van. You had to hold the off button in for two to three seconds to completely turn off radio.

Thanks guys for replies. Checked battery at 12.7 volts so seem to have switched it off this time. Will be more careful in future.
