Does anyone know the history/have any old photographs of Fleetwind Caravans?? We had (when I was a child) a Fleetwind 365 and though I remember it as basic, we had great holidays in the Fleetwind.

Hi Craig

Fleetwind were based at Freckleton near Preston Lancs, they began in 1967 making basic tourers aimed at the Sprite buyer of the time. Many were exported to Holland and by the early 70's the company made a cheaper brand! If that were possible! these were basically cheaper Fleetwinds but named Kestrel and also a dealer special called Valley was built to

By 1973 static holiday homes were being built to and a coachbuilt motorhome! But after 1975 the tourer side was basically halted with statics only being built and the company selling other tourer brands from its factory grounds. By 1981 Fleetwind were no more. If you keep a check out in my Scrapbook page I will be featuring a Fleetwind 14 from 1969 being used as a porta loo!

I have pix of the range but cant remeber the 365 they were generally called 10,12 and 14

Hope this helps

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for that information, very interesting. We certainly got rid of our old 365 in 1984 and bought a fleetwood, then an Award Nightstar. Seriously thinking about a new Bailey Senator California, as it's time to change again. I'll keep a look out on your scrapbook page, which is always very informative, as is the whole magazine.

Regards,

Craig

Craig Hi. Yes our first Caravan was a "Fleetwind" a 1973 model I believe that we purchased around 1981...It was very heavy too...we kept it for about 2 years until we found it had serious damp problems in it...But it gave us our first taste of Vanning and we have never looked back.

Chris.

Hi Andy,

Visited my local Bailey dealer last weekend and enquired about the Senator California. They said if we ordered it now, we wouldn't get it until March. Fine by me, but are things that busy?? Also, what sort of discount (if any) should we be looking for??

Hi Chris, Yes, we too had very serious damp problems. The roof lining started to "sag" and the nearside walls had severe rot within the wooden frames. Hopefully this will not happen to my newly ordered Bailey Senator California!!??
